“Picturesque Church”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

We stopped by this church soon after they opened at 9:00 am on a weekday and were surprised we were the only ones there! Perfect for taking all the photos we wanted - though ours did not compare to Ansel Adams or Georgia O'Keefe's art. The morning sun lights up the front of the church nicely for photos with the blue sky behind.

The outside is simple and beautiful; hard to believe it's right in town and actually behind some roadside construction today. When the church is open, it's pretty inside - still simple but painted and very peaceful. No photos allowed inside, just blissful quiet and beauty.

Definitely worth a stop for a few minutes to look in the church and take photos outside. There is a small gift shop next door but the sign said "back in 15 minutes" so we just peeked into the window and did not wait to go inside.

“Absolutely Beautiful”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

I understand now why they say this is the most photographed church in the U.S. Well worth the trip. Visit the little stores surrounding the church to get a little bit of history. The whole community gets together and resurfaces the church once a year. You won't believe how thick the adobe walls are!

“Authentic”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

A must see for photographers. I have been to some amazing churches in Europe and America. Many are fancier, more breathtaking, etc.. This church is simple and authentic and infinitely more moving. No photography inside. An interesting fact I discovered while talking to a local shopkeeper who has attended since childhood, every year the parishioners give it a new coat of adobe themselves. Well worth the time.
