I've been staying at Abe's at least once/year for over 20 years. There are better places to stay in Navajo Dam, but Abe's has become part of my San Juan experience. The motel's flaws are well known: outdated furniture and appliances; comically poor TV reception; tiny showers (the door pops open when you try to wash your feet). Yet, yet, I feel like I'm fishing in the stream of my own mortal time as well as the river when I'm there. Maybe this review is more about me than Abe's but I love this place like maybe how one loves an old, scruffy, dog.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Abe's Motel and Fly Shop has been on the San Juan River since 1958. We also have a comfortable lounge, motel, restaurant, RV / trailer park, boat storage facilities, and a grocery store. We were the first to explore the river for trout fishing, the first to guide on the river, and the first to fly fish the San Juan in winter months. Born 'n' Raised Guided Fly fishing Adventures offers wading or float excursions on the river, for a successful and memorable fly fishing adventure!
