“Nice bit of nostalgia”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

This is a true remnant of the Route 66 days. You drive right up to your door. The rooms have been upgraded but still retain the old 60's style decor. There was no vent fan in the bathroom but you could actually open your bathroom window! There was a sink both inside and outside the bathroom. The staff was very friendly and the internet connection was the best I've had in the 3-week trip we've been on. Some of the furniture is a little worn and there wasn't much to the breakfast but spotless. Even though I don't generally stay at motels with exterior access, I would definitely stay here again. And it was the least expensive room we've had on the entire trip.

the wife and i stayed one night at this motel. Motel is the older style which has the parking in front of your own door. the weather was really cold at night but the room was warm. the bathroom on the outside wall was a little chilly.

but overall i would recommend this motel, which they are updated including a flat screen TV.

Traveling on I-40 west needed a place that was low price and this motel is privately owned and operated and it is a good deal for the money. Free mini breakfast in the morning, rooms and motel are old but in good condition. Owner is very nice.

We just finished our second stay at the Sunset Motel. It has exceeded our expectation both times. We were on the road and called ahead that we would be late. The owner was waiting on us when we arrived with key in hand. The rooms are simple but extermely clean and the beds and pillows are very comfortable. The bathroom is "sparkling" clean! We will definitely stay here again on our trips from Arizona to Kansas.

The owner managers are rehabbing this great old hotel. Very comfortable bed and extremely clean bathroom! Looks like the old original Route 66 motels. Beautiful black and white cat guarding the lobby.

This was my first stay. It is an older style motel. Very quiet, clean, dated, but upgraded. Parking right in front of your unit. Staff efficient and friendly. Forget the continental breakfast. I bring my own anyway, so it wasn't important to me. Good internet, very small frig. I would stay here again. In my opinion much better than the Super 8.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for non-smoking.

An old fashion motel on Route 66 - just like when I was a kid, but better! The owners are restoring this classic motel and their care is showing. In addition to great rates and large, comfortable rooms, this motel is very dog friendly. It rained the night before our arrival and extra towels and mats for the dogs were waiting for us when we arrived. The only downside as far as the dogs go, there are a lot of goats head sand burrs around the motel, but honestly, there are a lot of those things in that part of New Mexico and I don't know if you could completely avoid them anywhere in the area!

If you are used to the big motel/hotel chains, this might not be the place for you. If you like small, locally owned establishments, definitely give the Sunset a try.

Thanks so much for your kind words! We are very glad that you and your furry companions enjoyed your stay and it is thrilling for us to hear that you appreciate the changes we have been making. Our apologies for the goat heads-they are a battle in this part of the country!
