Double Eagle Restaurant is an upscale eatery with a variety of food choices and a welcoming historical atmosphere encased in Mesilla. Mesilla is chocked full of history and is a photographers dream. A mix of Western friendly hospitality and pitureresque interior bullet holed shoot out room, ones imagination can get carried away. Be sure to read about Billy the Kidd's newspaper article and keep in mind William Bonney is bille the kidd, so when reading the wanted article, it is billy the kiid searching for someone..not the other way around. A rare and fantastic article.

The Double Eagle is a spot that I go to at least once every time that I go to Las Cruces and Mesilla. The outside of the building, which is very plain, is very deceptive, because when you walk in ... lush ... is the word. The bar is to the immediate left and is covered in gold leaf. Old (circa 1800s) oil paintings cover the walls and you cannot help but feel the history when you are in the place. The prices are high and I mean HIGH, so be prepared to drop a bundle when you go there to dinner. Personally I only eat dinner there when someone else is paying for it, though I stop in for drinks regularly. The green chili martini is AWESOME!

One little known gem the Double Eagle offers though as far as a deal is Sunday Brunch. For $20 you get a really great all you can eat buffet and all you can drink mimosas. And believe me, they keep coming back to your table to fill your glasses. Nowhere else in town can you get that kind of deal and especially not with the caliber of food and drink that the Double Eagle has to offer. Just a little secret for you. But make sure you call ahead for reservations because ALL of the locals know about that deal too.

The chili rellenos are probably the best that I've ever had anywhere and their posole and green chili chowder are fantastic. Just be careful if you're at the bar because drinks are high, high, high and you can easily run up a bar tab reaching a couple of hundred bucks if there are a few of you together. GOOD, GOOD food and drinks though.

Have stopped here for lunch quite a few times en route to Tucson to visit family. It is located in the Double Eagle restaurant on the Plaza in Mesilla (Las Cruces). The building was a private residence built in the 1840's and is said to be haunted. Food and service is great. Recommend the San Franciscan sandwich which is big enough to share. The whole Plaza is worth the stop as there is a lot of history there.

Had lunch here and it was one of our best retraurant experiences for the year. It's a very nice place with beautiful vintage type rooms, a great long bar, and a glass covered atrium w/ plants, etc. it doesn't look like much from the outside but definately worth a trip inside. the food tends to mexican, but also has BarBQ & other dishes. It's not your typical tex-mex.... it was all very good. And at about $10-$12 an entree, very well priced.

My wife and I recently went there for a romantic dinner and we were not disappointed. The steaks were great and cooked to perfection. It was not busy as we ate a little earlier in the evening and we were seated right away. Good wine selection. Prices were great.
