“Off The Beaten Path”
Review of Old Road House

Old Road House
Ranked #6 of 9 Restaurants in Mescalero
Restaurant details
Reviewed February 16, 2014

The turn to The Old Road Restaurant is located across from the Mescalero Community Center and tribal offices. Closer to Tularosa than Ruidoso, there is a small blue sign on each side of Hwy 70. Customers are a mix of locals, bikers and tourists. The Green Chile Cheeseburger is probably worthy of 3 1/2 stars but the fantastic customer service, low prices and off-the-beaten-path atmosphere make The Old Road a solid 4 stars. Cash only!

The food is perfection and the waitstaff can't be beat. This is worth a drive from any direction!
I can't get the place out of my mind, so I'm going back very soon.

The restaurant is easier to find now, because in each direction on Hwy 70 there is a dark blue sign with white lettering that reads "Old Road Restaurant" several hundred feet before the turn onto Old Road.

Food and service were both very good. We did not sit on the balcony but enjoyed a beautiful view from the small room on the south side of the building.

As noted in another review, bring cash, as credit and debit cards are not accepted. (The other review also says only local checks taken.)

We travel to New Mexico several times a year and we always go to Old Road for the huevos. The green chiles vary from year to year but we are never disappointed. We only get this dish because we miss it so much when we are gone but we have been with others who say the chicken tacos are really good too. NO alcohol. It is on the Mescalero Reservation.

This Restaurant is off the beaten path, if you miss the westbound (Hwy 70) sign you've missed it. The restaurant has NO SIGNS on the building, look for other vehicles on the lot. The sign in the window says "NO ALCOHOL ALLOWED" . The seating is good and the service great! The menu has a good selection of food. I had the Green Chilli Cheeseburger and the wife had the Mexican Combo Plate. The salsa and chips were good and spicy hot. Downstairs are the restrooms and it also has antiques and local art for sale. The prices are very reasonable (CASH or Local checks ONLY - NO debit or CC). Awesome balcony seating is available.
