Took a 4 day vacation to Ruidoso. The place is very nice. We were there June 23 since we were stayng I had put the sign out to not disturbe . Well to the house keepers this might not mean anything.. During our stay there my mothers ring disappared , kids hair bows appeared in our bathroom. on top ofall this a small refrigerator appeard in our room . ( that was not requested by us). And as for the buffet , The host is a very rude person that we just walked awy..

The inn has been redone and the work has been significant with a larger casino and many new sections. The restaurants are not up to casino standards. The rooms have new decorations. The roadways to the Inn are still difficult to navigate. The casino table games are not up to standards.

Room Tip: Select a room down town a much better value and you can get a good breakfast with many of the in tow...

Took my annual trip to Ruidoso and stayed at Inn of the Mountain Gods. Seems as if everything there stays the same, except of course, everything is older. The hotel rooms really need a facelift. Thread bare upholstery in our room, and the the linens were haphazardly changed/arranged. The bedskirt was high on one side and I could have tripped on the other side. Evidently some of the willow trees at the water edge needed some pruning - it appears they just chopped the upper branches off - not very pleasing to look at, and I think probably not what a trained arborist would have done. The staff remains the same at Wendell's Lounge, and we love seeing the same waitstaff yearly. Maybe we need to upgrade to a suite to get better room quality. Perhaps next year.

Room Tip: For goodness sake -get a lake view room. That's worth it

Have to say that this place has a nice setting. We stayed in July of 2013 for one night and was very impressed with the hotel. Very well run, but we had to admit that it was a little run down. Seems as thought it needs a little updating and cleaning. Carpets were pretty dirty and the food in the buffet was really bad. We understand the " upper scale" restaurants are very good.

The staff was very good and accommodating. I played golf and have to admit the course was awesome! Definitely will come back for the golf. Very calming, greens were exceptional and the fairways great.

We didn't go to the casino but it was pretty full and everyone seemed to have a good time

First thing is if you request a room with a certain view don't plan on getting it. We requested a mountain view double beds and were stuck with a view of the roof for the building next door. If you stood on a chair you could see the mountains. We arrived a little after 4pm and our room wasn't even ready. Had to wait about 45 minutes. Another warning do not eat at the buffet. Go to the Apache restaurant at the golf course. Buffet food was terrible and the service was worse. The little grill next door was wonderful. Now for the good that made the trip worth it. The grounds are breathtaking. My 9 year old had his first real hike up his "mountain" and had a wonderful time. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We had a little issue with the remote not working but they came to fix it asap. Really if you are inside watching tv you are missing out on some of the most beautiful scenery I have experienced. We found most of the people were very nice except the lady that checked us in and the waiter at the buffet. Casino is clean and doesn't have that awful strong smoke smell. No alcohol is allowed in the casino. I will be back there again and now that I have some knowledge of dos and don'ts I think it will be even better.

Room Tip: If you get a room on the 5th floor that is the main entrance floor. So you will have traffic at all...

I am both a biased and a nostalgic patron of the Inn of the Mountain Gods over the past 35 years. Having recently stayed there for a convention, I will offer the following pros and cons from my very biased perspective.
Pros: The hotel staff have a great attitude that reflects a caring attitude from the top. My compliments to the management. Chris at the front desk helped us on two occasions and was a pleasure to deal with. The maintenance and care of the facility is professional and prompt. The bed was comfortable and the room clean and spacious.
Cons: I liked the original Inn of the Mountain Gods so much better! It was a mountain getaway with an outdoor pool that we could float on in the wintertime (heated to 90F) and watch the snowflakes drift down on us from the tall lodgepole pines that surrounded the pool. We could take walks through the pines surrounding the hotel and warm ourselves around the central towering copper fireplace in the lobby after skiing. When they brought in the casino years ago, it was a small distraction attached to a beautiful lodge. Today, the hotel seems to be a small distraction attached to a noisy casino. Even walking in the nearby forest is prohibited.
Coming for a convention, golf, or gaming? This is your place and you will enjoy it.
Looking for a quiet retreat to the cool pines of New Mexico? This is probably in the lower 30% of your options. Keep looking as there are far better options like Shadow Mountain Lodge.

Room Tip: It can be a very long walk from the parking garage to some of the rooms. Be sure to ask when checki...

We booked a one night stay through Hotels.com for July 4th and when we arrived there was no reservation to be found. We produced our confirmation number and itinerary to the front desk, after a while they said there was no reservation but were able to find us a room and extend the reserved rate as we booked it with Hotels.com. After we checked out everything seemed fine until we got home. Then we found out that we were charged not only for our one night stay but for a "no show" on our reservation! After bickering with hotels.com they said it was the hotel not them charging us. We made several attempts calling the hotel and got no where. Finally we ended up having to file fraud charges against the hotel. My advice...stay somewhere else!

Room Tip: Stay at another property
