As the other reviews here indicate, this 1960's era motel is a WINNER if you like plain and simple. The place is slowly being updated by the new Socorro, NM owners. They now offer a small continental breakfast each morning and plan to open a coffee shop/cafe on the premises soon. The only drawbacks are occasional vehicle noise from the highway that passes in front and a neighborhood-dog barking contest that starts each morning at about 6:00 AM. And if you are lucky, you will be in Magdalena on a Thursday or Friday night when Alanna Van Winkle's Magdalena Cafe is open for steak house dinners! Try the tender juicy local-beef sirloin steak Tampico (cooked to a perfect medium) and the indescribable homemade blackberry pie. And if you want to know about the multitide of back-road, educational, mountain, and historical mining adventures to be had around Magdalena, talk to the High Country Lodge owners.
