An absolute not miss when in the Santa Fe n’hood! Drive the Turquoise Trail, traveling SW from Santa Fe and you’ll drive right by it!

While we didn’t play pool, the pool room was there if we needed it. Seems like it is right out of the Wild West!

I ate the #1 in NM Green Chile elk (yak?) and it was outstanding! Cooked to a perfect medium rare!

The only suggestion I have is to upgrade the buns from those white, soft things to a sourdough or other hearty bread worthy of the meat.

We all ate burgers of some sort and they were all cooked perfectly. The portions are more than generous.

The atmosphere is simply fantastic, the decor cant not be original, and nearly every corner is a photo op of some sort. Have fun!

It's D.J. from Albuquerque and I made it home without a single drop of rain. There is a lot of love in Madrid, and in the Mine Shaft Tavern in particular.

This restaurant looks well worn from the outside, but that has more to do with the mystique of the town itself. Inside you will find a fun, engaging environment, great food and helpful waitstaff. They also have a regular musical performances on their own stage. My family enjoyed the Meyer Lemon Chicken Avocado Salad, a Yak Burger, Huevos Rancheros and the Blackjack Burger. All were delicious.

We visited the Mine Shaft during a NM tour of Longmire sights. The restaurant was welcoming and fun. Food was good. Our waitress never watched the series. She commented that so much filming goes on in the area it's not unusual to them. Only the first episode was filmed in the Mine Shaft so if you're a Longmire fan, it's a must. Then, go home and watch Episode One!

This place was recommended to us by a park ranger. It looks kinda dumpy on the outside but interior is quirky and comforting - like the rest of the town of Madrid. I had the best veggie burger ever! It was covered in green chili, cheddar cheese and a fried chile on the top. OH YUM! We are going to check into staying overnight here some night. They have live music on Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

Note - there was no cell phone service here but we didn't care because we were too busy enjoying our meals.
