typical southwest tourist stuff, for the most part--plaza can be fun--very good mexican food at ANDELE--food at LA POSTA is good also, and the history of the building is worth the visit--I'm a native, born in las cruces a long time ago, so I've done the mesilla thing all my life

We like going to Mesilla for a change of pace. We start with a lunch at one of the restaurants such Peppers or La Posta. Both offer very good Mexican meals. There are a variety of shops around the plaza with the church on the north side. Many of the shops feature Mexican imports with other shops specializing in jewelry. In addition there is a Nambe store which has special prices on factory seconds. The people are friendly although many shops are not pet friendly so it is best to leave the family dog at home or at the motel. Weekends can be crowded with shoppers from El Paso.

My favorite place: Vintage Wine is located here along with several good restaurants like La Posta and Emilia's (which offers music on their outdoor patio). Cool clothing, nice art, mixed in among the usual tourist junk. Living only a mile from here I tend to gravitate to the good and beverage places.

The Mesilla Plaza is the only section of Las Cruces where most of its architectural and cultural history are preserved. A elevated circular stage in the center of the plaza provides a setting for Day of the Dead, Cinco de Mayo, 16th de Septiembre Fiesta, and other historical celebrations. Across the central court of the plaza is a beautiful 19th century mission church, Besilica of San Albino. Many delightful shops and restaurants are located in the plaza in authentic historic buildings. My favorite plaza restaurant is La Posta de Mesilla, which is located in a fascinating, multiroomed building that once provided services to passengers on the Butterfield Stagecoach Line.

We live in Las Cruces and have visited Old Mesilla over many years. Excellent restaurants, fun shops and very interesting plaza, church and homes. Plan to spend time to look around the whole area.
