This is our third visit to Las Cruces, and I think we've finally found a hotel we can return to again and again. We paid perhaps $10 more per night than the last place we stayed (Drury), and for that small difference had a huge upgrade in comfort and amenities.
First of all, the staff is great. Every housekeeper is friendly and helpful - the front desk very pleasant, and the breakfast staff overworked but really sweet.
Breakfast is outstanding - what what had at Drury was abysmal - here it's cooked fresh to order, lots of great omelette options, fresh fruit and yogurt, waffles, etc. We were here for 5 days and didn't get bored with the options.
The room is quite comfortable - from the great desk chair to the comfortable pull-out sofa, which seems like an oxymoron....we've been traveling a lot lately and I've slept on about a half-dozen, and this is the only one that gave me a good night's sleep. The real bed was great too. The only downside is the window shades aren't fully room darkening, so we always had a bit more light than we wanted.
One small thing - housekeeping often came knocking earlier than we'd like (about 8:15 on a weekday - which, since we're traveling from California, is 7:15 to us). We learned to put our "do not disturb" sign out, but then when we took the sign away after breakfast and went out for the day, the staff had not returned to clean (there is no reverse "please clean" side to the sign). They would usually reappear around 4 or 5 pm, right when we'd returned to relax. But they were very sweet about trying to find a better time, and brought fresh towels and extra blanket promptly.
The business center was nice to have to print things out, since the "print from your room" option did not work. Apparently front desk doesn't now how to fix this. Also, weirdly enough, the room phone didn't work - we could dial out but no call ever connected. Too busy to figure that one out.
All in all, a peaceful hotel in a great location for visiting NMSU. We had a ver nice view of the Organ Mountains, and our room on 2nd floor overlooking the pool was actually very quiet, with the exception of an occasionally heavy-footed upstairs neighbor and a bit of hall noise now and then, but nothing compared to other places we've stayed.
The decor of the hotel is really first rate, doesn't feel generic - and the pool and workout facilities are very nice. Highly recommended!
