Description: Tom, Jerean, and their son Christopher have teamed up to bring a new and exciting dining and lodging experience to Old Mesilla and the Mesilla Valley. The family has a rich history as the owners of the historic La Posta De La Mesilla, one of the oldest and most recognized restaurants in the southwest, dating back to 1939. With the acquisition of the Hacienda de Mesilla Grille, Inn & Cantina, the Hutchinsons believe visitors to Mesilla will enjoy the comfort and elegance of a stay in a southwestern Hacienda, while being just steps from enjoying the history and culture of Old Mesilla. The Hacienda Inn, Grille & Cantina is uniquely designed to offer an inviting, relaxed atmosphere where guests can enjoy a casual, yet elegant dining experience. Dine in our more formal Grille Room or in the casual atmosphere of the Hacienda Cantina indoors or outdoors, with spectacular views from the Cantina Terrace.

We were truly hoping that after the Gordon Ramsey visit, that this place would be first rate. Sorry to say that whatever Mr. Ramsey did for Meson did not stick.

First impressions mean quite a bit to me. Pulling into Meson de Mesilla reminds me of a walled compound. I should have known better when the dumpster takes up two of the valuable parking spaces in the lot. Their website goes as far as telling every one that the property is FOR SALE. Should have turned around and gone to one of the other places in Mesilla.

The entrance to the facility is off to the side after a brief walk through a nicely tended yard.

The entrance itself is hardly welcoming as it is nothing but an ante way with the hotel to the right and restaurant to the left. We were seated by the young man from the hotel front desk.

The owner needs to keep her voice down. She is loud and her voice carries throughout the dining room. Recommendation for the owner, dress a bit nicer if you want to present your place as upscale.

The restaurant is clean and well presented. The service provided by Chiko and Kelley was attentive yet unobtrusive. This was the highlight of the meal.

That is basically where the goodness ceases to exist. The food was not good and was quite pricey for what was served. Our party ordered a selection of ribs, chicken and fish.

One of our dishes (Chicken Involtini) had to be sent back to the kitchen because the meat was obviously freezer burned, thus making it taste bad with a chewy and tough texture.

No restaurant charging nearly $20 a plate should be using frozen chicken (per the owners admission). There are plenty of local sources for fresh chicken that would taste better and probably be more economical for the owner. Frankly, I have seen similar single serving portions (seafood and chicken) at Sam's Club.

The chicken parmesan was pretty good, but nothing special.

The ribs were presented well with about a 6 bone slab with an overpowering sauce. I would have liked to have seen an option of having a dry rack without the sauce. The shoestring potatoes and spoonful of cole slaw was disappointing. BBQ needs to come with more than a tablespoon of cole slaw.

The zucchini and onion side was overpowered by the onion and would have been better with less onion and way less pepper.

Moving on, we ordered dessert which was completely uneventful. Nothing homemade here and nothing worth $7-dollars. Raspberry cheesecake only had a drizzle of sauce and the chocolate truffle cake was hardly anything more than a brownie cake. Low quality desserts to say the least.

Overall, Meson de Mesilla is not a place that we will return. From the FOR SALE sign on the website to the serious lack of quality in the kitchen. You do not get your money's worth at this place. There are many other places in Mesilla to dine. I recommend that you pass this place up.

Gordon Ramsey would not be pleased if he were to walk in again.

We had dinner at Meson many moons ago when the owner blasted us with your cabaret songs during dinner. So loud was her singing that we could only visit during her breaks. After seeing the Gordon Ramsey makeover of Meson my wife and I decided to give it another try. On the show, one of Ramsey’s makeovers was white linen table clothes. Well, the owner now has plastic table clothes. As to the meal, the Cesar salad was very good, but our steak was fatty, the potatoes not very tasty and the vegetables over cooked. The wine list is OK if one is ordering a bottle of wine, but the wines by the glass, although inexpensive, were well just that inexpensive.

Service was good and waiter was very attentive, but he forget our bread. Food came out quick and was hot. Maybe because at 7:30 on a Saturday night there were only three other tables occupied.

There are better restaurants in Mesilla and Las Cruces. Too bad Meson just can’t make the leap forward.

Took a wrong turn and so glad we did. This is a lovely small inn with a fabulous restaurant. The staff are all friendly. It was very clean, comfortable and convenient. Food was great. We were traveling east, but made a point of returning to this place on our way back to Arizona. It is now one of our must stays.

Dined outside on lovely evening, seeing the Organ Mountains at sunset. Husband says it was the best salmon he ever tasted, and cooked perfectly. The server suggested good chardonnay for me. Owner, hostess, server/chef were exceedingly friendly and gracious. Prices were very reasonable. Look forward to dining there again.

We Dined at Meson de Mesillas tonight while visiting the hotel which we found to be charming. The restaurant was average at best. Our appetizer of mussels was ok. The shrimp on the tomato basil pasta special were over cooked. The sauce on the spaghetti was over seasoned with pepper and lacked salt. I really expected home made pasta. The New York Cheesecake with praline topping was a dribble of Hershey's syrup with raw pecans on a fairly decent cheesecake. The menu was good but the execution of our food was Olive Garden quality.
