The choices for good food and good music are few a far between for the folks that live in the Eldorado area. We have a handful of good restaurants to choose from. Once you've been through them and want something different, you have to drive into Santa Fe. Now the Legal Tender gives you a great reason to stay a little longer in the Eldorado area before making that drive.
The Legal Tender restaurant is located in an old historic building in the old historic village of Lamy. It was built in 1881 as a general store. You can taste the Old West along with the great food.
The menu is eclectic and tasty. There's a little BBQ, a little New Mexican and a little New American cuisine all thrown in together. And i's all good. (Try the Chicken Livers under the Starter section of the menu...yum!)
On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 6pm to 9pm, you can have some live music and do some two-steppin' with your meal.
And keep an eye out for special events. Last summer they did a crawfish boil and that was a big hit with the locals.
They are only open Thursday through Sunday, so plan accordingly.

Put on your boots and get your hat - get ready to two step back in time at the Legal Tender in Lamy. Went for a private party recently after a 15 year hiatus. No change in decor (or patrons), but there was a change in food and service. Locals run the place, the food is delicious, and the ghosts are still in residence. This is a really fun place to dance - check the schedule on their web site. Crab cakes and wine-a-ritas are my suggestion. Thanks to the volunteers who make this place so special. Ciao down, amigos!

My family and I were treated to a delightful lunch (prime rib was superb!) and wonderful service on Xmas Day when local residents did both hosting and server duties with down-home hospitality. My kids and I are just delighted that the historic attraction and eatery has re-opened. The train still runs there as it did when it was one of the famous places to stop along the rails coming into Santa Fe or departing. Check out the History Museum and go dancing with your sweetie to local music scene favorites when the Tender ends its winter break and re-opens on Valentine's Day, 2013.

How can you beat a real, old genuine saloon for dinner in Santa Fe?
Add good food!
Try the margaritas!

All the cowboys and their girls come out to hear any one of the great bands that play here most nights. They even have a poker night (sorta).

Please keep in mind that EVERYONE (except the chef) is a VOLUNTEER, so service is what you might expect. Just don't be demanding or tale it personal. This place is 100% local.

Walking into Legal Tender immediately transports you back in time. The bar looks like a saloon and opens up into a ballroom where there is live music on the weekends. We were lucky enough to be there for the music and loved having dinner while people enjoyed the music and danced. I had the Macaroni and Cheese with green chile and it was delicious!

I had read an article about the re-birth of the space into the restaurant and museum. I found it so interesting and inspiring that all of the servers are volunteers, working towards keeping the place alive for the community.

This trip was my first time to New Mexico and I couldn't have asked for a more authentic New Mexico experience than the legal tender.
