This was the best place we have stayed on holiday ever! My husband, son and I loved our two night stay at Casitas de Gila. The two bedroom casita we stayed in was gorgeous. The decorations and furnishings were perfect. The kitchen was fully equipped and really functional. The towels were fluffy and thick, the sheets crisp and the overall condition of the casita shows they are maintained with a great deal of care and pride. The O'Connors are impeccable hosts and fabulous artists (you can do most of your souvenir shopping right in their gallery) and their pups - Nellie and Gus - made us all feel right at home. The beauty of the surroundings and the availability of the self-guided trail around the property made it easy to forget that there were no TVs available. Instead we sat in the hot tub and waited in the splendid silence for the evening wildlife to appear. In the morning, I could make a pot of coffee and sit outside on our porch to watch the sunrise and the hummingbirds feed in the tree next to the casita. The best part was the opportunity to show my 12 year old the Milky Way - not visible in our part of New Jersey.
We used the Casitas as our home base for visits to the Catwalk near Glenwood and the Gila Cliff Dwellings in the wilderness north of Silver City. It was always great to come "home" each day. If you are planning a visit to the lesser known but fascinating southwest quadrant of New Mexico, make it a priority to visit the O'Connors at their beautiful Casitas de Gila - like us, you'll be planning your return before you pack to leave.
