“We'll Be Back!”

This was the best place we have stayed on holiday ever! My husband, son and I loved our two night stay at Casitas de Gila. The two bedroom casita we stayed in was gorgeous. The decorations and furnishings were perfect. The kitchen was fully equipped and really functional. The towels were fluffy and thick, the sheets crisp and the overall condition of the casita shows they are maintained with a great deal of care and pride. The O'Connors are impeccable hosts and fabulous artists (you can do most of your souvenir shopping right in their gallery) and their pups - Nellie and Gus - made us all feel right at home. The beauty of the surroundings and the availability of the self-guided trail around the property made it easy to forget that there were no TVs available. Instead we sat in the hot tub and waited in the splendid silence for the evening wildlife to appear. In the morning, I could make a pot of coffee and sit outside on our porch to watch the sunrise and the hummingbirds feed in the tree next to the casita. The best part was the opportunity to show my 12 year old the Milky Way - not visible in our part of New Jersey.

We used the Casitas as our home base for visits to the Catwalk near Glenwood and the Gila Cliff Dwellings in the wilderness north of Silver City. It was always great to come "home" each day. If you are planning a visit to the lesser known but fascinating southwest quadrant of New Mexico, make it a priority to visit the O'Connors at their beautiful Casitas de Gila - like us, you'll be planning your return before you pack to leave.

If you want that "get away from it all" feeling--with all the comforts imaginable--this is the place. The guesthouses are lovely and tasteful, perched on the edge of a cliff. We appreciated the self-guided nature trail and stopped in the hammock. Saw three bighorn sheep. Cooked our steaks on the BBQ, had a fire in the chimenea outside AND in the inside kiva fireplace, and then enjoyed the most total silence from the hot tub! I almost hesitate to let anyone in on this wonderful secret place!

My husband and I had a wonderful honeymoon vacation at the Casitas. The accomodations were tasteful and homey. And the property was breathtakingly beautiful. On Christmas morning, we climbed the mountain across the stream from our casita and experienced warm sunshine and marvelous quiet. We were planning our next visit before we even left!

My friend and I spent a week at the Casitas in August and enjoyed the beautiful views just outside our Casita and the amazing quiet of the place. The casitas are warm in the summer because there is no air conditioning, but they cool off well at night. The facilities were otherwise clean and well kept. We enjoyed our visit but felt the management was controlling, overly fussy, and much more concerned about keeping everything exactly in its place than it was with the comfort of its guests. We loved the area but will not return to the casitas.

My wife and I stayed at the Casitas last May. The Casita was great. It was very clean and the stylish design was pleasant. The owners showed us great hospitality. Mike got his telescope out and shared his knowledge of the night skies. Sittiing in the hot tub watching the stars was pure delight. We did some hiking and the quiet was good for sitting on the porch of the casita and reading. If you are looking for a quiet place to get away and relax, I would recommend Casitas de Gila.
