I stayed here traveling from the east coast on a business trip, although my family was with me. The hotel does need updating, it does not have the same updated decor that other La Quintas have changed over to. This is no matter to me, the reason I rated this hotel a little lower was because of the strange smell in the hallway on the first floor and in our room. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was, but there was definitely an abnormal smell. A second reason I rated it lower is because the room we stayed in was very cold. Our heat was up but cold air seemed to be just flooding in from the outside window, as a result I unfortunately didn't sleep well and neither did my husband. I will also add our room was clean, no complaints in that area at all.

We are traveling with a well-behaved golden retriever, and our hotel/motel choices are determined by their pet policies. The La Quinta chain is well-known for being pet-friendly, so we stay at them frequently. The hotel and room quality varies; some are below par.

This La Quinta in Gallup, New Mexico - on the other hand - was perfect for our dog and perfect for us as well. The hotel is clean, the lobby area is spacious, and the desk staff was just plain wonderful to deal with. Our room was clean, equipped with a big TV, microwave, refrigerator, and free WiFi. The heating system worked and it was quiet. The free breakfast was good and there was a variety of food choices.

Out back was a fenced-in dog "exercise area" - with pick-up bags and a waste container.

The hotel is right off I-40 and it's on historic Route 66.

We give this place an enthusiastic "Thumbs and Paws Up ! "

This is located right off the Exit 26 of Interstate 40. It is conveniently located by other hotels and a Denny's Restaurant. The rooms are clean, beds are very comfortable, Check In Clerks all extremely helpful. They offer a free breakfast. This Hotel also allows dogs and have a "Pet Area" outside for them. I look forward to my next stay in Gallup and it will be at this Hotel.

Room Tip: I was on the Second Floor and there are ice machines and pop on this Floor which is very handy. Even...

Gallup is an interesting little town. The largest town between Flagstaff and Albuquerque, it appears more prosperous than many of the towns left behind from the Route 66 heyday.

Exit 26 on the I-40 is the eastern most Gallup exit on the highway. It is at this exit that you will find a small compound of relatively new properties. This exit is easy on, easy off and offers a wide variety of necessisties -- a Shell gas station, an Indian jewelry/artifact outlet, a laundromat and a number of major chains including La Quinta, Microtel, Holiday Inn and Suites and a platinum rated Comfort Suites -- all in one compact area.

We opted to stay at the La Quinta since we were traveling with our pet and we appreciate LQ's pet friendly policy. This hotel appears relatively new though it may have been recently rebranded as many hotels along I-40 have been in recent years. The young woman at the front desk was very competent and check in went quickly. She also cheerily discussed dining options for the evening meal.

We opted for a ground level one bedroom suite which offered a lot of space to move around. The room included a microwave, refrigerator, huge desk, couch and chair as well as a really comfortable kind size bed. The bathroom was spotless and had dual entrances -- one from the living room and another from the bedroom. The only problem was that the bedroom was a corner room and the lights from the parking lot invaded the room through the curtains which could be uncomfortable for a person sensitive to light while sleeping.

The lobby was well appointed with a comfortable seating area, the fitness center was very nice with excellent equipment and no competing exercisers. Breakfast was generous with a variety of items including scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, cereals, muffins, breads, waffles, juices, yogurt, coffees.

Great property. Will definitely stay again.

Room was very clean and the staff was awesome! Our dogs loved it because we had a one bedroom suite and they had lots of room to roam. Only downside was there was really no dog run area, just lots of mud and rocks. But, the puppies survived!!! :-)

The room was clean, the bed was soft and comfy, heating and cooling unit hooked up to a new digital thermostats (but not motion activated, which I absolutely hate). I was afraid that the place would be run down due to the pet-friendly policy, but there was no smell or left-over hair or weird stains on the carpet. water is HOT, and plenty of water pressure. Wifi available in room, wired ethernet cable provided and appreciated. Internet service not terribly fast, enough for browsing but not enough even for short videos. Food in the morning included protein, which is getting rare at this level of hotel. Selection includes sausage patties, ?bacon (it was soft, and not crispy), and hard boiled eggs, in addition to the usual waffle maker and carbs. There is a Denny's right next door, as well as a Subway. Other food options down the road along Rt 66 include the usual fast foot chains as well as a couple of local diners. Go toward the Rio West Mall for other dining options. Fridge in room is the size of a college cube mini-fridge, so don't stuff too much in there. There are a lot of security cameras at the elevator and in the public areas, which was a bit offputting at first. However, the zoning is mostly commercial/industrial and there were absolutely no pedestrians or loitering individuals.

All in all, a restful and pleasant stay.

If you're on I-40 between Flagstaff and Albuquerque, this is the only
La Quinta available. No one hosts families with dogs better than this
chain and this property fits the bill with clean rooms, great staff and
a fitness center. Another terrific experience.
