Casa Blanca Inn & Suites

This place is great. The owners take great care in every little detail. The rooms are decorated with authentic southwestern art and items. The breakfast is wonderful. Farmington is a rough and tumble oil town....this is a nice diamond in the dust. I suggest the newly-built rooms directly to the west of the courtyard...they are quiet and modern. Visit their sister inns for great experiences too: Don Gaspar Inn in Santa Fe and Blue Lake Ranch in Colorado. No expense is spared or gardening technique forgotten in making these three inns truly memorable.

If you are familiar with the four corners area, you know that it is an economically depressed area with some of the most spectacular natural sights in the country. Ofttimes one is reduced to roughing it to enjoy the area. But with this gem you can have your comfort and all the surrounding beauty are well. Farmington is far from lovely, but as a mining town it offers a few restaurants work eating at and with the discovery of the Casa Blanca we will be back. We stayed in the Vista Grande suite and found it charming with the combination of (wonderful) vintage bathroom and modern details. You feel as if you are in the home of your well to do aunt in 1965 . . . and she has excellent taste. The room is the only one upstairs, quite spacious and has a enclosed sun porch to sit and enjoy the view. the bed was very comfortable with fine quality linens and a memory foam top. I was in love with the corner tub and spent several hours in it. The breakfast is quite competent and the coffee very good. service is mixed because of the area, the local girls try hard but are unsophisticated and somewhat informal. The Casa and grounds are lovely, I would highly recommended this accommodation to someone who will be in the area.

We stayed in the Fountain Room at the Casa Blanca in late September 2008 & found it to be very lovely. The room was possibly one of the most beautiful rooms we've ever stayed in - lovely art work, great amenities (bar sink in living area with refrigerator & microwave; large tile sink in bathroom; jacuzzi bath/ shower; flat screen television; king bed; nice sitting area). The room is situated near the fountain & gardens, so very lovely. We enjoyed the artwork & decorations in our room. One of very nice services was a free laundry room, with detergent provided. We really enjoyed the breakfasts - there was enough variety of choices & Linda's freshly prepared main dish was great. The only negative was that there is another room over the Fountain Room & the people staying there the first night were up all during the night, walking on the squeaky wood floors - they kept us up along with them. Linda was very gracious & "comped" us the first night's payment. Linda was also very helpful with suggestions about what to do & where to eat in the area.

We recently stayed three nights at The Casa Blanca Inn. First of all the home and furnishings and gardens are beautiful. Our room was large, bright and well appointed. The shower was very small and had a very poor shower head and low water pressure.
The breakfast room is decorated beautifully with a warm fireplace for a chilly morning and big windows to let in the sun and wonderfully carved furniture.
Unfortunately the limited breakfast that was served did not match the surroundings. Perhaps more attention to this detail should be considered by the owners. The office manager seemed to be the person responsible for the breakfast room too. She was very friendly and helpful.
Be aware that Farmington is not a tourist town. It lacks restaurants and has limited shopping. It is the closest large town to Chaco Canyon, Bisti Badlands and Shiprock. These places are worth the trip to Farmington.

The Casa Blanca is a great property: We stayed one night at the Vista Grande Suite and were very happy with the accommodation: spacious room, cozy, and very clean, with a great bathroom. Outside the suite there is a refrigerator for your use, with coffee beans to grind, a coffee maker, and all is ready to make a truly great cup of coffee. Also dishes and glasses - nice touch!

But the wide sun porch that is seemingly a part of the suite cannot be accessed directly from the room: one has to go outside the room and access it from there. Had we known that, we probably would have chosen one of the lovely courtyard rooms/suites instead. Still, that didn't dampen our spirits too much - just something to know in case you consider the Vista Grande Suite.

What we were not so happy with was the reception and the service: A woman in a football jersey and shorts returned our greeting, briefly showed us around the property, and that was that. Not that we need to be catered to - but a little friendliness would have been a nice touch!

We asked about breakfast hours: 7:30 am to 8:30 am - no indication that there could be some lee-way. ( Hey, we are on vacation!!). We barely made the breakfast by the deadline - nothing great, but better than having to find a breakfast place in Farmington.
She had recommended the 3 Rivers Brewery for dinner, and we went. The beer was good - everything else was really NOT good. ( write up will be at the restaurant page). She just didn't care and gave her routine answers, it seemed.

In contrast to other B and Bs we have tried - and loved, such as the Apple Orchard Inn in Durango, the owners aren't there at the Casa Blanca : they leave the place to the management of hired staff, and it shows.
Somehow, for an exquisite and intimate place such as the Casa Blanca, one expects better service than at a motel 6 - but that's what we got , and that's what makes the place a 3 and not a 5.

We have travelled widely in the U.S. and abroad, and stayed in numerous B&B's priced 40% - 60% higher than Casa Banca. But, never have we visited a more thougthfully appointed, tasteful and well cared for facility. The decor is Southwestern, with touches of other things the owners have acquired over the years from other parts. The gardens were beautiful. Our Chaco Suite was clean, spacious, comfortably luxurious. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I read a couple of early reviews done on Trip Advisor, and almost didn't book a room. Having been at Casa Blanca for two special nights, the short comings mentioned in those earlier reviews were nowhere to be found. Casa Blanca is a special B&B, well worth staying at if you are in the Four Corners area.
