“A surprising find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

We arrived in Farmington and as usual, headed to the visitor's centre for a town map. the two helpful assistants at the desk got chatting with us and suggested a look through the Museum, so we could stay inside a little longer to stay warmer. It was bitterly cold outside, we agreed. It has a permanent exhibit of the oil and gas industry mainly donated by a private owner and that had been well looked after. The Trading Post exhibit was a wonderful re-creation of the olden trading post. I found that the most interesting. The collection of Native American rugs was also very impressive. A good time was had there.

“Unexpected find.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

The museum is at the Gateway Visitor Center & is very good, especially if you have any interest in the oil industry. I lost my husband for about an hour! I loved the domestic history which was portrayed as well. The gardens out the back going down to the river were very attractive as well.
I wasn't expecting much from Farmington on our trip, but it turned out to be a very interesting & prosperous place. We loved the river walk.

“Great Small Town Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

While in Farmington you must not miss the Museum. It has a permanent exhibit of the oil and gas industry that helped Farmington grow. The Trading Post exhibit shows an authentic replica of the reservation trading posts of years past. It aslo has changing exhibits that are always exciting. Art shows are also a part of the schedule.

“Propaganda for the energy companies”

It's free, so that's good. But, much of the focus of the museum is like a walk-through commercial for the oil and natural gas industry.
