“family tradition with excellent food and atmosphere”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

This restaurant was lovingly built and the recipes cooked with just as much care from the original owners whose children carry on the family tradition. Take time to wander and read the accolades that are framed in the interior rooms, appreciate the photos of family members and watch tortillas being made by hand. The huge tree indoors is a great setting for a photo opportunity.

The food is excellent - all original recipes. Prices are incredibly reasonable. Comfort is all around. I understand the staff does a great serenade on special occasions.

If you are driving from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, consider stopping here for lunch and then heading on to Sanctuario de Chimayo on the way. A lovely way to extend the drive and take in nourishment on many levels.

El Paragua has smaller versions (including one next door) called El Parasol in a few locations. If you can't make the main restaurant, look up the other possibilities for a quicker stop.

“Very authentic”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

What a wonderful experience! From the time you walk in the door and feel the rustic, authentic Mexican decor, see the tree growing right through the roof and see the adobe walls, you know you are in for a treat...and we sure were. Came here with friends who live in Espanola and were glad they recommended Paragua. The food selection was awesome and very tasty, the elder lady who served us was very attentive and the drinks from the bar were served with a flair we enjoyed. We will definitely be returning next time we are in town.

“Great old world cuisine, loved the food!”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

We stopped in for a late lunch and walking through the door was like taking a step back in time. The decor was very rustic and had an authentic feeling for this city boy. The menu had a lot of old country selections. My wife had the carne adobada plate and I had the chile rellenos made with green chilies. My dinner included choices. I selected a side of posole, and my own carne adobada. I was surprised when the sopapilla arrived with a seasonal local choke cherry sauce!

All in all a very satisfying meal for both of us. It quench my appetite for some authentic New Mexican green chili as we traveled through this area. Just wish it was closer to home :)

We were out the door the door for under $40 and an hour for a relaxing casual lunch. Definitely worth a try!

“Great Mexican Food”
Reviewed October 3, 2013

The wife and I ate here with several of our friends that live nearby. We had our evening dinner here. The building is rather unique, has large trees growing right up thru the building. Nice decor. The service was good as was the food. They also have a bar which we did not utilize. We ate here a year ago and have always found the food and service to be good. We will eat here again when we are in the area desiring a great Mexican dinner.

“Bring back the homemade chips!!!!!”
Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

Great food, best green chili enchiladas, sopapillas and Awesome Margaritas. Best bar and bartenders. So why in the heck after so many years of success do you change the chips? The new ones are NASTY. They are like store bought Garden of Eden with flax seeds, no salt healthy crap. It's a slippery slope when you start altering a successful business for a dollar here and there. What next?
