I can't say enough about how good the Guadalajara Grill is. It was so good that our party (us and two other families) ate here two nights in a row. The atmosphere was very local and in comparison to other Taos restaurants, the Guadalajara Grill is a great value (meals range from $5-10). You order your food at the counter and then your food is brought to you at your table in a big dining hall. It's very informal.

I personally think the burritos (asada) and quesadillas (chicken) are the way to go. The chimichanga was good but not as good of a deal as the fajitas at the same price. Also, two members of our party raved that the fish tacos were the best they'd ever had.

Anyhow, while the Guadalajara Grill is different than Orlando's (different setting, different price points, etc.), I'm almost inclined to say it's better. We thought about going to Orlando's our second night (we'd been on a previous trip) but ended up back at the Guadalajara.

Don't go to Guadalajara Grill North (or south for that matter) if you are expecting New Mexican cuisine. This is Mexican through and through.

But it's tasty, fresh Mexican--and reasonably priced! Get in line at the counter and take in the myriad menu options posted up the board. The guys at the counter amazingly are always in a good mood and cheerfully answer questions. (If you are a health-conscious eater, you might want to ask them to go easy on the oil and salt.)

The room is huge. Huge. Huge. Usually busy all day long, with locals and some tourists. The ambiance is not what you are here for, although the place is clean and comfortable. Once you place your order, the counter-guy will give you a number and your steaming hot food will be delivered to you at your table. You can get soft drinks, wine and beer at the counter, too. There is also a fun salsa and pepper bar condiment bar.

The fish, meats and poultry and veggies are always fresh, and not served in a gloppy, sloppy Mexican sauce that big-city diners have grown accustomed to.

But don't eat here if you want New Mexican cuisine--go to one of the other many New Mexican restaurants in Taos. Go to Guadalajara Grill North for reasonably price, muy delicioso, fresca Mexican food! Ole!!

This restaurant gets rave reviews on Trip Advisor, so we had to try it last week while we were in Taos. Big mistake. It is average at best and really nothing special. The crowd is a mix of local and tourists, and while I didn't mind the do it yourself ordering, the food did not live up to expectations. I would not eat there again - there are much better places in Taos to eat.
