“Excellent "New Mexican" food -great prices”
Reviewed August 17, 2006

We had lunch at Orlando's and loved it- At noontime there is a bit of a wait- as the place is crowded with locals- which is a clue that the food is really good.. Don't leave without trying something with Red Chile or Green Chile (or order it "Christmas" -which is red and green)...This is NOT "Tex-Mex" food -this is regional "New Mexican" cuisine which uses a lot of chiles- but it's not about the heat of the chilies-it's about the smoky flavor of the chile sauces. They had about 9 different types of beers- both domestic and International (and all at the same cost of $3.50)
We had Pork Slices covered with a smoky red chile sauce - hominy (posole) and pinto beans and tortillas- --- and Chile Rellenos (los colores-3 different type sauces) Hominy and pinto beans -tortillas- both were really excellent. Total for both lunches and a couple of "Negro Modelo " (Dark Mexican Beer) came out to about $ 25- And it was well worth it.
For fans of Food TV: if Rachel Ray and her show "$40 a day" were ever to do a show from Taos- Orlando's would be on her suggestion list.
Orlando's is on the North side of Town-

“Horrible customer service”
Reviewed March 6, 2006

The sign said NO CHECKS, NO CREDIT CARDS, NO DOGS (understandable) BUT it should have said WE GIVE NO SERVICE. We even left to go get cash and return, but we should have gotten the message from their SIGNS.,This restaurant even had a sign at the front door that said NO CHILDREN BEYOND THIS POINT at the front door. We showed up at 5 minutes before opening and were rudely told they did not open until 5. OK, We waited outside along with a few other customers that showed up after 5 and they were not in any hurry to seat us and seemed to care less. 15 minutes later..They said they were still counting money for the drawer. I would say that does not affect your ability to seat your customers with a menu and glass of water. They were the rudest bunch of wait staff that I have encountered. Needless to say, the food may or maynot be any good. We left! We could tell the service was not a priority with this bunch. Very disappointed!

this is the first time i have ever googles our cafe, and was disapointed to read the review from austin tx. yes we have a sign but it reads, sorry, no credit cards, no dogs, smoke free cafe, checks ok. we take checks from anywhere. we have two kids of our own and there in no sign about no kids beyond this point. we do not open the doors till five but they do open at five sharp. we also provide a bon fire every nite in the winter to keep our guests warm and offer hot chocolate and water during long waits. we are a small cafe that pride ourselfs in giving the best sevice we can for the amount of customers that pass thru. remember your in taos not every day suburbia. orlando

“Spicey Food at Orlandos”
Reviewed February 25, 2006

The atmosphere was very nice and the food (not very expensive) wasn't bad except extremely spicey - good if you like it that way. No credit cards and no margaritas are a drawback. Great guacamole and the fish tacos weren't bad too. Service could have been better that night - they seemed a bit disorganized. I would say it's good atmosphere but only average food and there are definitely better places in Taos to get southwest type food.

“No Margaritas or Credit Cards”
Reviewed December 22, 2005

I ate here with my family in October and the service and atmosphere were excellent, especially if out on the patio. I thought my enchiladas were mediocre but everyone feels different about how mexican food should taste, so I won't pass judgment on the food, the menu was varied and there was lots to choose from.

Just wanted to let everyone know that when we went there they did not serve margaritas and they did not accept credit cards. However, restaurants do change their policies over time. Just an FYI.
