We had lunch at Orlando's and loved it- At noontime there is a bit of a wait- as the place is crowded with locals- which is a clue that the food is really good.. Don't leave without trying something with Red Chile or Green Chile (or order it "Christmas" -which is red and green)...This is NOT "Tex-Mex" food -this is regional "New Mexican" cuisine which uses a lot of chiles- but it's not about the heat of the chilies-it's about the smoky flavor of the chile sauces. They had about 9 different types of beers- both domestic and International (and all at the same cost of $3.50)
We had Pork Slices covered with a smoky red chile sauce - hominy (posole) and pinto beans and tortillas- --- and Chile Rellenos (los colores-3 different type sauces) Hominy and pinto beans -tortillas- both were really excellent. Total for both lunches and a couple of "Negro Modelo " (Dark Mexican Beer) came out to about $ 25- And it was well worth it.
For fans of Food TV: if Rachel Ray and her show "$40 a day" were ever to do a show from Taos- Orlando's would be on her suggestion list.
Orlando's is on the North side of Town-
