a metal quonset hut is really not an ideal building for acoustics. and despite the folks at tmb making a valiant effort and some nice equipment (i am friends with the sound engineer), the sound is still not great. it is as if there is no sonic separation of the instruments, they all meld together into what ends up sounding muffled and with not very good range. i know they are constantly trying to figure out ways to make it sound better.
aside from the sound quality, i like almost everything about this place. the atmosphere is very comfortable, and unlike many of the places in taos, those of us with not much money feel welcome, regardless of our dirty work clothes. it is very down to earth, spacious, and the outside areas are great. the food i have tried there has all been good. lots of options for good bar food, as well as some more substantial meals. the beer is good, if not great. the staff is always friendly and helpful.
overall, a great addition to the taos area, particularly for folks that aren't into the more upscale scene in town.
