“Best pie ever”

Meals were good to average, you must like the seasonings for southern food. Have visited a number of times just for the pies, they are a must!

“Southern Food Mmmm”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Elisa's was a wonderful surprise. The restaurant is a rather small, but homey and not a fancy, cookie cutter place. We had meatloaf with gravy, candied sweet potatoes, collard greens and cornbread. Where else in New Mexico can you find such a treat! Elisa waited on us and was friendly and efficient. Sorry we had no room for pie.

The restaurant was a little hard to find. It is on a side alley way. We were pleased we took the time to locate it.

“Too shabby”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

The food isn't too bad at Elisa's House of Pies, but the atmosphere is less than desirable. The chairs were torn and the entire restaurant had a shabby feel (and not "shabby chic" either). Food prep seemed to take a long time. Once was enough for this couple.

“Wonderful pie, tasty BBQ sauce.”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

We were welcomed immediately upon entering by Elisa who works the front of the restaurant; her husband does the cooking in back. The small, old, but charming, brick building had 2 electric heaters struggling to warm the eating area without much success this chilly winter day. Elisa suggested they might get a stove which would help both the temperature and add to the ambiance. I would also recommend adding more lighting as it was also kinda' dark. I had the meat loaf sandwich and added a side I've been recently craving, mac n' cheese. Meat loaf tasted very homemade and fresh, mac was a bit ordinary (a stronger cheese, panko on top, some bacon crumbles-just make it special). My wife got the BBQ chicken (advertised to be served on a ciabatta but was just a regular bun) with a side serving of very good BBQ sauce that made the sandwich. Bags of assorted chips accompany sandwiches. We split a piece of pie which melted in one's mouth. We agreed the flavors were very good but portions were small for the price and the better value would be to order the meal, not sandwiches next visit. And there will be one due to so many things on the menu that call out to my taste buds-skillet fried chicken (a Sunday staple when I was growing up), BBQ pulled pork, fried cabbage and then there is the pie selection which could take many visits to enjoy fully. Likely there were no locals there because they know it is cold and dark in the building during the winter; that stove and lights would pay for itself in no time. Summer on the patio would be fun too. Nice folks running the place, great flavors, this place needs to be here so go hungry, order the meal size but save room for pie!

“Old South cooking in New Mexico”
Reviewed November 9, 2012

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised to find real southern cooking while visiting Deming, New Mexico. Elisa and her husband are host and chef in this simple and unassuming cafe in downtown Deming. The menu is real deep south recipes and some southeastern BBQ, including pulled pork sandwiches. We were treated like we were in a Southern family kitchen, and enjoyed it completely. We each took home a piece of Elisa's homemade pies, and they were delicious. We'll visit there again when we're in Deming.
