Very unusual rock formations that you can hike, picnic, and camp among! We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon here. Easy hikes around and on top of these rocks enable you to see for miles and miles around. Just beautiful. The ranger in the visitor's center was very helpful and informative. She explained about local wildlife and how the rocks were formed from volcanic activity 30 million years ago. You can pick up a hiking trail map at the visitor's center or online.

Since we were in the Silver City/Lordsburg area we decided to visit the City of Rocks. Not being familiar with this area we were impressed that an attraction of this caliber was in the area. Noting the rock formations and the history of the area made this stop worthwhile. We did not camp there but there are facilities to camp in the park. The area is very remote but the roads are paved. The service staff was very helpful and answered all our questions. There is a short video for those who want to learn more about the park. Make sure you have plenty of gas in your vehicle as there are no gas stations in the vicinity.

One of New Mexico's state parks located just north of Deming. Great for family day outing or tent camping and excellent for RVers. RVers will find electric and water hookups, graveled pads and picnic table covered area, rest rooms and shower. However there is no Dump station on site. The rock formations are great for exploring and climbing... The onsite the visitor's centers provides informative information of the rock formations and native population of plants and critters found in the area. There is also the nearby Faywood Hot Springs for those seeking a great evening soaking in the hot springs.

Stopped at City of Rocks on a road trip with the kids (7 and 10) though Southern New Mexico in March 2013. They really enjoyed playing hide and seek, climbing the rocks and wandering around the park. We stayed nearby at Faywood Hot Springs and spent the evening soaking in the springs looking at the stars. This was one of our favorite spots in amazing New Mexico.
