Most of Corrales is adobe and Perea's is no exception. It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside you find a nice atmosphere. They do have a patio outside which is very nice and relaxing. The one thing I love about Perea's(besides the flavor of the food) is the plate size. It's enough food to fill you but not enough to stuff you! I hate going to restaurants that give you way too much food. This place may not be for everyone but my wife and I love it. If your in the area and want to try it keep in mind they are only open from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00p.m. I'll take the green please!

Perea's is one of the regular stops on our culinary circuit. We eat here every 10 days to 2 weeks. Quality never changes....all NM classical dishes are made in-house by the family. It's fun to sit at our favorite table or the bar and watch tourists or new folks walk in and have that look on their face that says "I must be in the wrong place!" TC, John and staff always make them feel at home, though. Perea's may not be fancy, but the bar has some real top shelf liquors at bargain prices. Try the tamales, green chili cheeseburger, carne adovada, enchiladas, huevos rancheros. The Perea family also caters!
Lastly, TC makes a killer margarita.

No, I'm not saying anyone is stupid, but smart people (or those with good taste) care about the food quality not the decor - which I like anyway. So Pereas chips and tacos are not spectacular - go to Taco Sal for that. But their tacos are still good. The point is that Pereas shines with New Mexican classics, like enchiladas, tamales, posole, or rellenos. It's where they put most other New Mexican restaurants to shame. No brown gravy-like green chile sauce here (Gardunos). No orange red chile sauce made with a flour base (sorry Barelas). Depending on the day, you might get posole or calabacitas as a side (no lardy refritos here) - that's old fashioned New Mexico. The sopapillas are yummie too. Plus there is a full bar with great margaritas and lots of local flavor. Ingredients are good, not greasy - you will leave feeling satisfied, not fattened up (unless all you eat are chips and tacos!).

Folks who order "Tacos" at a New Mexican restaurant won't "get it." This is a great New Mexican restaurant. Stick with the classics: carne adovada, tamales, huevos rancheros, and you won't go wrong. Bring cash they don't accept credit cards and they are only open for lunch. Great, funky old adobe, plenty of atmosphere.

The restaurant is better known as Perea's or Parea'sTijuana Bar. It sits in the center of the historic village of Corrales in a centuries old abobe building. The food is classic New Mexican cuisine with some of my favorite dishes being carne adovada (pork slow cooked in red chili), green chile stew, the green chile cheeseburger, tamales, posole (a hominy based stew), and sopaipillas (a fried bread) . This is a family business with friendly and casual service but not a lot of frills. Perea's offers real value for authentic New Mexican cuisine in a setting that really conveys rural, traditional New Mexico sense of how New Mexico once was.
