The Lodge Resort and Spa
Ranked #3 of 6 Hotels in Cloudcroft

Just a half hour from the desert, you find yourself in pine forest on top of a mountain. We stayed at this hotel for a marriage retreat and found it to be elegant and suitable. Each room is different and furnished in antique furniture. In the main lobby you will find a warm and inviting stone fireplace and comfy overstuffed leather furniture. The tower is another draw. From it you can see all the way to White Sands National Park. The food was fantasitc, as was the bar, which reportedly belonged to Al Capone. What amazes me is that we were staying only 1.5 hours from El Paso, but it seemed like we were deep in the forest. There are countless miles of trails to be walked and a small town of 500 just down the hill. This hotel is may not be for everybody, but we found it to be charming and fun.

It is our pleasure to take care of you! We appreciate you taking the time share your wonderful comments. The bar did belong to Al Capone; it’s a registered Brunswick bar. It was bought through the Brunswick Company in the 70’s. It has a sister bar at Tinnie’s Silver Dollar outside of Hondo, NM. We know those facts; we do not know how the bar acquired its bullet hole. It makes one wish that the furniture could talk!! We hope to see you again soon.

After living in this area for many years, I've grown to love the Lodge.
The hotel is always clean, a big plus, in my book!

I also have my hair cut there & it always turns out great!

As for dining, they have a superb menu that rotates. I've done Thanksgiving & Christmas here with family & friends, no one was ever disappointed.

I'd highly recommend the lodge over any hotel in Alamogordo or Cloudcroft. Friendly staff, great food, a fantastic spa/salon, I couldn't be more happy with the Lodge.

Even though there was no room on the main lodge , we got a room on a property 1/4mile from main property called the Pavillion.
The room was clean and had the neccesary things, decoration too simple for my taste (ie small old tv, not a lot of upgraded furniture) and there were no amenities there, had to go to main lodge.
But all that was fine considering the overall location and scenery. The service at the lodge was awesome, friendly staff, excellent food, have to mention they had complimentary breakfast, one of the freshest welled served breakfast I have had in a while!
For those golf lovers they have a pretty golf course in the property as well as a Spa.
The building is so 1900's so it has a nice atmosphere.
I don't think you can get better than this in Cloudcroft, so I highly recommend, you can go hiking and do outdoor stuff and come back to a nice relaxing hotel.

We booked a room that was listed as "Rustic cabin king located short distance from main lodge" what we got was a room in a building that had a total of 12 rooms and was located near a half mile from the lodge. When I inquired about the room I was told "it was a rustic cabin style room" that meant it had wood paneling including the ceilings! Also there was no soap or shampoo and when we went back to the front desk we got one soap and one shampoo from the desk clerk.

Room Tip: Stay in the lodge if you must go!

All comments are appreciated. Your input is important for our continued success. Each of our 59 rooms are unique and special. It does present a challenge for advertising. We try to make sure similar types of rooms are grouped together so our guests are pleasantly surprised. You are correct; The Pavilion is exactly half a mile from the main Lodge. The Pavilion is located in its original location, near where the train passengers disembarked from the train back in 1898. That first year, The Lodge guests stayed in large tents and enjoyed meals and social time at The Pavilion. In the years following, a permanent Lodge was built catty-corner from The Pavilion. In 1909 a devastating fire destroyed The Lodge, and when the railroad rebuilt, they chose a more scenic location ‘just up the road’ from The Pavilion. That is the current Lodge. Your concerns about the amenities in the rooms have been shared with the appropriate managers. Once again, we want to thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We hope to have an opportunity to change your opinion of The Lodge.

I've wanted to stay here for a while, what a treat. My sister and I treated our mother to this and she loved it. We all loved it. Stay here when you can if passing thru New Mexico. There were 3 of us we stayed in the two queen room. Very comfortable beds and room.

I would have rated it 4 stars (never a 5 star when it's as downright uncomfortable as this place is), but the rooms are just too small. However, it gets four stars because it has great ambiance. Lovely early 1900s atmosphere. Expensive for what you get, though.
The staff in general seems to be very professional, but there's an overall detached feel, perhaps because it's late in the season? The person at the front desk in the morning looked downright scruffy.
The bedroom, and we might have had a larger than average one, because it was on the end, upstairs, so it had an extra window. .. has a lovely feel and beautiful decor. But it was ridiculously small and uncomfortable, and that could have been made better, so easily. There was a luggage rack in the tiny closet, and I cannot imagine why it was provided because there was literally no place to PUT it in the room. Very little open space at all to set down my purse. A small surface area to place my laptop and makeup mirror would have been MOST helpful, since there is NO surface area in the bathroom - you might could set down a toothbrush, no more.
It's fine for one person, but if you're a couple, you might ask for a larger room.
Oh , and another real issue - to get to our room, we had to lug our bags up several steps to the lobby, then DOWN couple steps in the hall , then UP two flights of stairs and down a hall to get to our room. And there were dirty towels or something lying all over a sofa just outside our room. I'm not sure why there was a sofa out there, ... .maybe to give you a place to relax, since you couldn't in that room.??
I think the ambiance is so lovely , it's worth a visit , if you're prepared to deal with a lot of stairs, and be rather cramped in a relatively expensive hotel.

Room Tip: This hotel was built in the early 1900s and probably remodeled to allow private baths in each room...

Thank you for visiting The Lodge and taking the time to share your comments. Your observations have been shared with the appropriate managers for team improvement. Some of our rooms are small and arranging these rooms is a challenge; your input is appreciated. The Lodge is 101 years old, and your assessment that we’ve remodeled to include private baths for each room is spot on. We welcome you to contact us at cwatters@thelodgeresort.com and let us know which room you were in, we would like to address the room layout with your input in mind. We hope to have an opportunity to serve you again in the future.

My husband and I made our first trip to Cloudcroft and stayed at the Lodge. Normally, I like to stay at chain hotels, but this place was a pleasant surprise. The staff was very nice and helpful with all of our questions. We stayed in one of the renovated rooms, which was very nice. Our room had a great view from the back of the hotel and was very quiet and relaxing. We dined one evening at Rebecca's, which had good food. The bar at the front of the restaurant was also a nice place to relax and enjoy a drink. The atmosphere was great and just what we needed! If you go there, be sure to ask for the key to visit the tower at sunset, it's beautiful!

Room Tip: You can choose a preference between rooms on the 3rd floor or renovated rooms on lower floors. Perso...
