Trip Advisor rated this place so highly I had to try it on the way home from Colorado Springs. Having had a horrible experience at a hotel there (see Cliff House review from me) I was pleased to fine a quiet, comfortable room.. Internet was provided as promised. Young lady at check in was pleasant and helpful. Breakfast buffet was complimentary, simple and wonderfully delicious. Room was clean beyond spotless.. Wonderful night. While Clayton is not the hot spot of NM., it can boast itself as having one of the best, inexpensive lodging options in the state. I will return.

While driving from NW Arkansas to Colorado, our family was in need of somewhere to spend a night. After much research, we decided that Clayton, NM was our best option. We used points for our room, so I cannot really comment on the pricing of this property. When we pulled up, I have to admit I was skeptical about this hotel as the exterior is that of an old two-story motor lodge. Upon entering the quaint lobby, though, my concerns were assuaged. The lobby is decorated quite quaintly in the southwestern style with a small water feature. Unfortunately, the front desk staff had a good amount of difficulty figuring out how to check us in with a points voucher. We arrived quite late in the evening and parking was a very big problem as well. The lot seems too small for the number of rooms.

Our room was quite and clean. It was obvious that the interior had been renovated and the bathroom was quite nice. The room size was nothing special but definitely adequate.

The complimentary breakfast is in the same building as the lobby across the parking lot from the rooms. It appeared that this may be the only establishment in Clayton which serves breakfast, though, as it was quite busy with walk-in paying customers. At check-in we were issued a ticket to get breakfast. We went down in shifts as our kids woke up, which seemed to cause some confusion with the waitstaff. When my son and I went down, we were informed that there would be a wait as all the tables were full. I asked if we could just take our food to go as we were in a hurry to get on the road, and the waitress seemed relieved that we were willing to do that.

There was a nice fenced-in area with a playground and pool (I think), but we did not have time to utilize either.

This is, obviously, an older motel-style property, but it has been been well maintained, and it is a good value for the price. The rooms were clean, relatively quiet, and comfortable and we all slept well. This is a property where the guests often sit outside their rooms and visit, and it had a very friendly atmosphere. The buffet-style breakfast was hearty and enjoyable. Also, be aware that dining options are almost non-existent in Clayton so, based on conversations with other travelers, the two sit-down restaurants are usually overwhelmed during peak travel days, i.e. long waits. Also, on the first leg of our trip, we left a bracelet in our room, and they promptly called me, then held on to it and returned it to me on our return trip through the area. If you want luxurious, destination-style accommodations, this is not the place, but it is a good option when traveling through the area.

After a ten hour trip, we stopped here. Friendly front desk staff and rooms were decent. Did hear the trains several times during the night. Breakfast was enough to fill one up. Would stay here again.

This is a well managed motel along the highway through Clayton. The rooms are up-to-date and very clean. The kids will love the outdoor pool and playground. Breakfast buffet is good. I was worried about the train tracks running 1-2 blocks behind this property, but I never heard any noise. Restaurant choices are very limited in Clayton.

There aren't alot of places to stay in Clayton and the mainstreet appears that most business have gone out of business - so we were delighted when our room here was so much more than we expected. They have all the details covered, nice plentiful pillows, comfortable mattresses, extra towels, etc. The only thing that even seemed like an issue was the parking - by the time they sell out all the rooms there aren't enough parking spaces since they allow people with boats and trailers to park on the property too. If we ever end up in Clayton again - we will surely stay here. One other point is they must have some special wall barrier as no noise was heard from any rooms around us and I know a little dog that barked was next door becuase the owners appologized before walking away for dinner....but we never heard the little guy.

Coming home from Colorado with my adult daughter, we were trying to make Amarillo but only got about halfway. Hoping to find some place decent to stay in Clayton, NM, we saw the Best Western sign and decided to stop there. I wasn't hoping for much and was absolutely delighted at the Native American decor and friendly staff. Our room was clean and spacious, with a king sized bed, jet bathtub, nice-sized work table with multiple outlets for PC and other equipment, and large flat screen TV. The room was beautifully decorated in Southwestern theme and the bed was comfortable. Free breakfast buffet was out of the ordinary -- moist scrambled eggs, sausage patties, fresh biscuits, gravy, etc. We had to spend some time in the excellent gift shop, too, before we left! If there is any negative, it's that I awoke once in the night when a train passed nearby, but that's all. This motel is highly recommended and I will definitely stay there again!
