“I could not find one thing wrong with this hotel”
Reviewed August 6, 2008

Stayed here for two nights in July 2008 and could not find one thing to fault the hotel on.
The room was clean, the bed comfortable and the staff first class.
If there was one thing wrong it was the bikers who left early in the morning and woke me but you can't blame that on the hotel.

We spent the night Clayton on our way to Texas to visit family. We stayed at this place because they allowed our baby, Lucy to stay with us. She is a beautiful 7 year old basset hound. This place has it down...they even have a dog poopie area(which has lots of trash bags!) The room was very clean and the staff was very friendly. If only someone could make the wind not blow in Clayton, I might go back!

  • Liked — It was clean and they allowed animals!
  • Disliked — Well, Clayton is not very scenic!

Despite being next to RR tracks, it's soundproofed well. Pool is large for a hotel. Breakfast buffet is high end for this type of hotel. Basically you can tell the owners care about the place. There is a native crafts sales area with quality stuff. The room has real decor; the pillows were way above average; we had a jacuzzi tub that cost $10 more and tho it filled slowly, it worked well. It smells decent (no overused fresheners) and it was a good value. We'll stay there anytime we pass through.

Lovely hotel and great staff! The outdoor pool is fenced for safety and privacy, and has a cabinet of towels so you don't have to bring one from your room. The free breakfast is the best I've ever seen - eggs, French toast, sausage - all cooked fresh and served buffet style. The beds are soooooo comfortable! The staff is very helpful - we had a small problem with our TV and they fixed it within 15 minutes. Make sure you book in advance - we have stayed here many times and it is always full by nightfall.

  • Liked — Comfortable beds, nice pool, great free breakfast
  • Disliked — Not much to do in Clayton, NM

Weary travelers, we showed up and booked a room for the night at the Kokopelli lodge BW in Clayton. This was a very nice hotel to stay at. My only complaint about the room itself was the coffee maker that took approx. an hour to make coffee. Other than that the beds were very comfortable, rooms very clean and the delightful crabtree & evelyn soaps, shampoos and lotions were great! We had breakfast at the restraunt on property the next morning and found it to be a friendly and tasty experience. And boy does this hotel have waterpressure!

Now, I do have to say that it wasn't so pleasant staying on the 2nd floor next door to the chain smoker twins and having to walk through their smoke to get to the stairs on one side or walk the other direction through a bunch of grungy charachters that were camped out on the walkway. Other than that this was a nice experience - try to get a bottom floor if you can help it to avoid those things.

  • Liked — The beds and the toiletries!
  • Disliked — The coffee maker and the smokers that took up residence next door on the walkway.

I phoned this hotel a day ahead of time and asked for a reservation for the following night. We showed up at 5pm only to be told that the reservation was made for the night before and that since we were no shows we would be charged and that no rooms were available for the night. I explained tghat a mistake had been made. I had phoned the day before and asked for a reservation for the following night (the night we arrived). The manager said "if there is a mistake that's been made, you made it." So we were stuck in the middle of nowhere with a manager who believes his employees do no wrong....and no offer to help us find alternative lodging. The rates at this hotel are high for the area....and the management can only be described as incompetent. Before swearing off Best Western altogether we phoned the Best Western 800 number...Angela went out of her way to help us find another room and apologized the inconveniencing us.....So Best Western is on my good list but the Kokopeli Lodge rates a 1 only because there is no lower rating.....

The is a very nice hotel. I must admit, I am often skeptical of Best Westerns, because, in our experience, they're not always so good. We booked this hotel however because we were on a road trip through New Mexico, and this was about the only thing that looked decent in the area.

This was a very pleasant surprise. The two women at the front desk were very warm and welcoming. The rooms were nice, and clean, and the beds were very comfortable.

The free breakfast was better than most hotels of this type. It offered fresh eggs, pancakes, sausage and bacon, as well as biscuits and gravy (I think). This appeared to be actually fresh cooked food, not that frozen microwave stuff you get at most hotel breakfasts. They had a women in charge of the buffet, making sure it was fully stocked, as well as a waitress which actually brought your beverages to you and made sure you had everything you needed.

I will stay here again.
