We made reservations while on the road. Receptionist was outstanding--helpful, friendly and efficient. We were at Hotel Eklund a couple years ago and were happy to see it had reopened. Friendly staff, comfortable accommodations. Great Price. Yes, the bed was interesting and the floor rolled a little--it's a "historic" hotel and part of the fun--but it was all clean and neat. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel; dinner a little slow (staffing over holidays) but breakfast was fast...and good food. We enjoyed our stay and will be back for sure.

Room Tip: A train comes by at night...not really a problem.

It was great to return the "new" Eklund. We had a balcony room and it was fun to sit with a glass of wine and watch the city traffic. The restaurant was mediocre (but had a lot of locals on a weekday evening). The staff was super-friendly and very helpful.

Room Tip: Go for one of the balcony rooms.

Hotel Eklund is an old historic hotel in a very small town near the Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Colorado border. Our room was immaculately clean. There is so many interesting things that went on at the turn of the century in the area, and the man who made our reservations gave us a wonderful tour of the hotel and history of the area. Just be prepared - a train goes through this small town in the middle of the night - so ask for the earplugs if you are a light sleeper!

Also , very pet friendly - they gave us doggy treats when we checked in.

Room Tip: Ask for the Eklund Suite if you are going to stay a few days, as it has a plenty of room to spread o...

Love the old hotel building and interior. Built 1892. Worth stopping in at least to view outside and inside of old hotel.
Hotel Accomodation: So, So. No seating in room except desk chair. Bed not very comfortable. Very noisy inside and out.
Hotel Staff: Excellent!!
Price: What we got was a special and was very good
Restaurant: Breakfast is good. Dinner was not good. Chef must learn the secrect of flavoring. Had baked salmon that was absolutely devoid of any flavors, taste or seasoning. Wife had stuffed shrimp and I also tried. Was very bad. Again devoid of any taste, flavors or seasoning. I would have prefered a frozen dinner. Very, Very disappointed in dinner. Breakfast was good. Only saving grace of dinner was the baked potato and you really have to try to mess up a baked potato. Wanted to stay at the Eklund, did, and probably won't again.

Room Tip: Would suggest getting a larger suite, but for me cost would be a factor. Do not get a street side r...

My new husband and I were passing through town on our way to Colorado. We decided to pop in and check this lovely place out. Irene was very helpful and we stayed the night in the King Suite with the balcony.
It was simply lovely. Restaurant was wonderful as was breakfast the next morning.

After the Eklund was closed, we kept checking back to see if it was open again and finally were rewarded when it reopened earlier this year. We had our usual suite opening onto the balcony overlooking downtown Clayton. We enjoyed it and the restaurant. New owners and staff very helpful. We will continue making the Eklund a stop on our way from Central Texas to visit family in Colorado.
