“Must stop between Taos and Santa Fe”

Beautiful historic building set in the middle of some of the prettiest New Mexico territory you will see. Check out the dual fireplace in the bar really cool!

Best picks are the Carne Adovada and the Nex Mex Enchiladas Christmas style (red and green chile) with an egg on top.

Check out the pottery gallery in the back - you will see some amazing work from the local masters and get a hell of an education from the personable and knowlegable owner. But careful spending any dough here it is pricey stuff.

“Beautiful and Delicious!”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

When my husband and I studied during three summers at the College of the American West, in Montezuma, we preferred driving to Chimayo over traveling to Albuquerque or Sante Fe. One of our reasons was this particular restaurant. The building is landscaped beautifully, and the tables on the elevated terraces are protected by lovely, market umbrellas. The menu is equally impressive and filled with local, fresh ingredients from which to select. The drinks are equally wel done and the wait staff gracious and efficient.

“dissapointing”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

My husband raved about this restaurant but I have had much better southwest food. The tortilla soup was thin and the meat in my enchilada dry.

“A Christmas treat”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

We had lunch here on Christmas Eve. The 45 minute waiting list really only took 30 minutes and the experience was worth the wait. This old ranch house is huge, but the warren of rooms makes you feel that you are in an intimate bistro. There is a selection of drinks and provided a chance to taste some of the wines from New Mexican vineyards (try the Tinto del Sol). The flautas were light and flaky, a grand improvement over tough, over-cooked ones so often found. The Carne Adovada got rave reviews from my friend. Special treat -- the sopaipilla that comes with each meal! My friend liked the flan, and I was thrilled with the Toasted Pinon Mocha Mousse. The Rancho de Chimayo Roasted Pinon Coffee was a perfect final touch.

The gift shop has some interesting things, but I found them a bit overpriced. There are other spots close to the Santuario that you might want to visit if you're shopping.

The waitress was very helpful, even using the items on the table to help me figure out the route to several places we wanted to visit! "As you leave the restaurant, turn right on this road (a fork), turn left as Orgeta's Weaving (the cream pitcher), then bear to the right after the stop sign (a glass) and the road will take you through the middle of the Cerro plaza (a napkin.) We found it without a hitch!! Now that's customer service!

“Traditional New Mexico Cuisine in an Old Family Ranch House”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

This is my fourth visit over the past twenty years. This is a required side trip for anyone traveling to Santa Fe, Los Alamos, or Taos. Turn east from Espanola to the old village of Chimayo. The restaurant is located on a county road about a quarter mile southwest of the village. The ranch house is huge with multiple rooms for dining inside and out. Staff are friendly and efficient. The food is wonderfully prepared from scratch in sizable portions for a reasonable price. The atmosphere is relaxed, casual and unpretentious. Stop by the gift shop and purchase your own book of Rancho de Chamayo recioes.
