A stop on the “high” road from Santa Fe to Taos. A little over the top religious for my taste. Miraculous dirt (don’t eat it) that cures lots of ailments? Funny thing - the crutches for all the cured people are identical. Go figure . A real mass going on in the small (open) chapel

33 years ago, this was a quiet historic fabled place. Now its an overbuilt tourist attraction. One cannot blame the stewards of this sanctuary, nor the locals at all. It has grown would wide and a "pilgrimage' spot beyond just New Mexico. They were smart too in that with its expansion came parking, facilities for modest events, and budget to maintain this historic location. What has been lost is the feel of discovery and the feeling you were in a place where many miracles over hundreds of years actually took place by the small hole of dirt. That hole isn't looking any longer like it did decades ago btw. Just sayin.

If you are in northern New Mexico you must make a trip to Chimayó. The chapel is very spiritual. Take the time to visit the grounds and take in the beauty and peace of the location.

Learn the history of the location and believe.

I cried a lot when I came here. Just because of the sadness i felt for everyone that left messages praying for those they loved or to be healed. We were told about this place from the owner at El Nicho and we decided to come. The ride out was amazing and it was just so peaceful. The church and grounds with all the statues are beautiful. There is holy dirt that is blessed everyday and you are free to take to help you with your healing. I recommend this place. Even if you are skeptical, you will feel like God is there!

I have never been in such a peaceful and blessed place. Sitting in the sanctuary the vibration is so intensely felt you can close your eyes and get lost or actually found. The healing sacred energy is meditative. There is a sweetness about the entire area that touches one deeply. The compound houses the sanctuary and another chapel dedicated to ninos (children). I go often and always leave transported.
