Oh, OK the title of this is hokey, but we really did like the Inn. There are only 9 rooms, all of which are individually decorated. This is definitely not a chain motel. There are 4 rooms on the ground floor and 5 rooms upstairs and no elevator. Chama is a very small town so the rooms, which all overlook a garden, are quiet and peaceful. It's not a deluxe place, but the owners and manager treat you royally. There's no air conditioning, but there is no need for it as the nights are cool and windows can be open. No breakfast on the premises, but right next door is the Boxcar Cafe which has breakfast and lunch. You'll find that the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad is across the street and about a one minute drive to park there if you don't feel like walking. All in all a really nice inn.

If you get to Chama, NM and want to stay in an affordable and comfortable room, look to the Chama Station Inn. We stayed 2 nights in the "Train Room", and had a very nice stay. The room was decorated with a train motif, had a day bed, a full size bed, and a bath with hot water! There was only 2 of us, but the room could easliy sleep a family of 4. The location to the train station is great, and there is a a cafe just next door for breakfast.

Stayed two nights in Chama whilst taking the wonderful Toltec and Cumbres train ride. Stayed in room #9 at the back of the hotel. This room knocks the socks off rooms that we have stayed in so called boutique hotels! Large, quiet and comfortable with fireplace (real), writing desk etc. Nice gardens outside and across the street from the train. Great value.

Room Tip: I believe that room #9 and the one above are the only ones that are large with fireplaces.

We (husband and wife) were driving down to the Cumbres & Toltec and decided to sleep over before the ride. This hotel/motel was directly across from the station. We got there are 9pm and our key was waiting for us. :) The bedroom and bathroom were very clean. The bed was comfortable and we fell asleep quickly.

Room Tip: Sorry no swimming pool, that was clicked by accident. I stayed on the top floor and it was quiet.

We came to Chama to ride the train. We found the inn to be clean and the grounds beautiful. We stayed in #9 upstairs in the end. It was spacious and comfortable. My only problem was the wireless Internet. Had to go outside and sit on the bench to get it. It was nice outside so this was not a a problem. At the front of the store, the owner displays her glass jewelry. We loved them and bought several pieces. The people were very friendly and gave us good restaurant advice.

Stayed two nights because of comvenience to Cumbres and Toltec train. This is a two star motel, and we thought it was reasonable value for the $75 a night we paid in peak season. The room upstairs was clean, as was the bathroom, and the proprietors are very friendly. It is a very basic hotel, with some drawbacks. No air con, no iron/ironing board available, pretty small room, a bit stuffy after a fairly hot day. There was a band playing at the hotel over the road the second (Friday) night we stayed, which kept us awake to 1 am, but I think this was a one off because of the 'chama days' festival that was on at the time. Other reviews noted squawking floorboards in the rooms, which we also experienced, so get an upstairs room, as we did, and you do the squawking. If you stay downstairs you get squawked at.

This hotel is probably just fine when the weather is cooler but we went during a heat wave and had to leave windows open while sleeping. There were no curtains - just wooden shutters - so to keep from roasting we had to sleep with windows and shutters open. Anyone could walk by, peak in, and see us asleep. It was still uncomfortably hot and we had no feeling of privacy.
