What a great experience.

We were riding the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad and needed a hotel as close as possible to be able to take early and late photographs without much travel restrictions. Little did we realise just how many photos we would take in and around the hotel! It's so photogenic both inside and outside. Wendy and Bonsal (the owners) are really welcoming and literally turn their house over to their visitors. There are only three guest rooms so book early. It's well worth phoning from the UK as Wendy will totally woo you with her choices of breakfast. There are local restaurants etc. for evening meals. Subtle little touches such as wrapped chocolates on each pillow every evening set off their level of quality of care and consideration.
This period house/hotel has to be seen to be believed. It is truly and unforgettable experience which must not be missed. Easily found across the road from the Chama Depot of the C&T Scenic Railroad.

Wonderful accommodations, terrific hosts. It really is B&B perfection run by experienced hosts. Located just across the street from the railroad, this is a perfect place to stay when visiting Chama.
Stay an extra day or two and enjoy driving in the area.

My wife and I totally enjoyed our stay at the Parlor Car Bed & Breakfast. They have three rooms, two upstairs and one downstairs. We stayed upstairs in the Palmer room that we totally enjoyed. The owners Wendy and Bonsall were great hosts. The breakfast was great, we were there for two mornings and the breakfast was different each morning. It is located right across the street from the Cumbres and Toltec railroad station and we could walk to the train. We would definitely stay there again if we were in the area

Room tip: Palmer room was excellent

The Parlor Car Bed and Breakfast is directly across the street from the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad station. It is located in a charming two story home home with three comfortable bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own private bath. Owners Wendy and Bonsall Johnson have operated this B&B since 1997. Bonsall also serves as a docent on the train trips and is a veterinarian in the Chama, New Mexico community. Wendy is an excellent cook and is very attentive to the guests. If you stay at the Parlor Car B&B, ask Bonsall for some tunes from the player piano in the living room. The photo in this review was taken from the front yard of the B&B.

Our stay was delightful. We benefited from the historical knowledge of Wendy and Bonsell, as well as the many available books in the library. Wendy's cooking was varied and delicious. The accommodations are terrific for a small town, low income setting with clean rooms and comfortable beds. We would definitely stay there again on a future visit to the Chama area.

Fifteen years in New Mexico and this was our 1st time on the infamous Cumbres Tolec Railroad. Shame on Us! We travelled Chama to Antonito by train and bused back to Chama. The stay at the B&B was nice but our room was just ok. The bed was too high and the in-room bath too small. My husband is 6'3" and definitely bumped elbows and hit his head in the shower and bath room, I"m 5'4" and it was too small but doable. The hosts are endearing and accommodating. House is starting to show the lack of upkeep and necessary repairs. We would definitely stop to visit but would not stay. Coffee served by the husband was great as is his player piano skills. Wendy is charming and a great cook. The town appears to be dying and that would be a shame. Please go to Chama, shop and take a ride on the train. It's a beautiful part of America.

Room tip: Choose the room downstairs.
