Holiday Inn Express Alburquerque N - Bernalillo
Ranked #2 of 4 Hotels in Bernalillo
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 28, 2013

We spend six days here over the Christmas week. It is Stereo-typical for a large chain hotel; however, the staff and convenience for the area makes it well worthwhile. The staff were very caring and helpful. They obviously know the areas goods and bads. They made great recommendations for food and entertainment. Every time you saw them, at the front desk, in the dining area, housekeeping in the hallways, even the maintenance man, they greeted you and asked about how your stay was. They made you feel welcome and demonstrated true southwest hospitality. We will be staying here again. NOTE: The only negative for the area is NOT the hotels fault. It is the typical DoT construction in the area. Judging from their progress, they should be done within the month.

GOOD: Clean an large rooms with comfortable beds, very friendly and helpful staff, they gave us a fine recommendation for dining at Abuelita's
BAD: The real problem with this motel is the location on a crossing. There is a huge construction project on the nearby I-25 and another on the street in front of the Motel - so there is noise fay and night

The room was very comfortable with a sofa. It wss clean snd well appointed. We were interested in staying away from the crowds of Albuquerque snd this filled the bill. Access could be better. Construction at an intersection near the hotel made access difficult during peak traffic times in this normally sleepy small town. Still one of the better rooms I have had in an HI Express.

I stayed at this motel for six days preceding the Balloon Festival. If this motel was located elsewhere my rating would be higher. The facilities are good, the breakfast includes several hot items and the room is clean. The one problem I had with the motel itself was the guerrilla in the attic, who, for about three nights straight would move furniture, stomp around the room, and then collapse on the floor with a huge thud. Suppose I should have complained, but it's hard to get motivated at 2 a.m. The real problem with this motel is the location. There is a huge construction project underway on the nearby I-25 interchange and another on the street in front of the motel. Combined, the projects result in huge traffic jams during commuting hours, and congested traffic at all times. While I was there an accident at intersection in front of the motel closed the street for about two hours. There is NO back way in. I won't stay here again until assured the interchange construction project is completed.

Dear Mr. Dick H. Virginia United States
Thank you for taking the time in sharing your recent experience during your stay, I’m glad that you liked our breakfast selection and you felt that our rooms were clean.
I apologize for the noise disturbance and traffic you encountered during your stay, we understand how frustrating traffic can be, unfortunately it is out of our control, the department of transportation’s project goals is to mitigate congestion and improve access along US 550 from NM 313 to I-25 while creating a roadway system that is compatible with and that promotes the needs and interests of the community and other highway users.
Once again thank you for you feedback and we look forward in seeing you again.

We stayed here for a wedding but it was during the Ballon Fiesta.

Breakfast - The hotel breakfast was good and had a decent variety but they kept running out of food and did not replace it as fast as I thought they should. The buffet unit they store the food in is difficult to get food out of because it has a hinged lid and you have to hold it up while also opening up another lid on the food itself and then dispense the food with your other hand. I noted many people having difficulty with this and others having to help them.

Service - They knocked on doors early in the morning (7:30 or so) because they were trying to keep up with the work load for the Ballon Fiesta. In hind sight we should have put "a do not disturb sign" on the door. Later in the day we had to ask for towels as they had passed our room early in the morning and did not come back to it.

Rooms - The room we stayed in was nice and the room we rented for our kids was nice as well. There was some patches on the carpet for repairs done but they were not too bad.

TV- They had some good kid channels that our kids liked.

Pool- The pool was nice and well kept and the kids enjoyed it. The hot tub was working and was nice as well.

Places to eat nearby - (Regarding other complaints and reviews about no place to eat) We ate a nearby Dions pizza which was very good and there are many other restaurants such as Panda etc.. to eat at. They are a little ways down the road, over the river and to the left, use Google or gps to find. They are not that far and well worth the small drive it takes to get there.

Overall - It was a nice stay. I would stay here again but I might look for something a little cheaper as I think the rate was a little high (might have been higher during ballon fiesta though).

Problems - I did notice the outside doors on the backside of the hotel do not require a room key to get in - they are broken. I also noticed this with the pool doors as well and thought this was rather dangerous for small kids. The hotel needs to fix those doors ASAP. The stairway carpet was getting pretty worn with some gum in spots and the room carpet had patches where the carpet was repaired.

Room Tip: Ask to see the room first if you are worried.

My wife & I have stayed at this hotel several times when traveling through New Mexico. On our
last trip in Sept., we were delayed by weather. The desk clerk held our room for us until our
arrival. The hotel is clean and well kept. The rooms are very comfortable. We will stay here
again.

We've been wanting to try a Holiday Inn Express as we've seen them everywhere. We usually stay at Best Western, Marriott Fairfields or Marriott Courtyards. The loby was nice and well decorated. However, we didn't sleep much as the next door room was rented to a family with young children and a crying baby all night. There were lots of vacant rooms and the families should have been placed further away from singles or couples. The beds were very poor, looked cheap and most uncomfortable. We won't go back here and this is our 2nd experience with a poor Holiday Inn Express hotel. . . .

Room Tip: The hotel next door is a better value. . . .
