This is a great place to stop if you are traveling in the Bumthang region. It's really no farther than anything else in Bhutan, being "ten minutes out of town" is kind of a joke, because you are going to drive to a hotel for food anyway, it's not like New York where you walk out of your hotel for something to eat. It's all pre arranged. Views are amazing. It's silent. The food is better than you'll get elsewhere.

Alas, we stayed here for only one night in September 2012. Located in a pristine natural setting and expertly managed by the sublime Pema, this was the best place we stayed during our two week tour of Bhutan. The rooms are spacious, super clean, comfortable, and tastefully appointed. Unlike our experience at other hotels, the kitchen here is excellent. Featuring both healthy international and local fare (buckwheat pancakes, red rice, emadatse, honey and berry preserves), the food was fresh, gently cooked, and delicious. We were even brought fiery fresh red chillies on request at dinner. We would stay here again without hesitation.

The hotel is very good, beautiful room, nice envrionment, but bit far from the town, 45 minutes drive.
the only thing I was not really happy is the manager. I have travelled all over Bhutan and there was never any issue of eating with my guide and driver. But at this place, since what the manager is talking about cost all the time, to eat with my driver and guide can be problematic. She prefers the meal is only eaten by the tourist and bring the leftover to her daughter. But if the tourists want to share the meal with the guide and driver, she is not happy. I find that kind of attitude unacceptable, especially the cost of tourist meals are 3 times of the local restaurant.
In a word, I don't feel comfortable at her place. I'd rather go to somewhere where they can treat the guides and drivers with same respect.

I stayed at the Chumey Nature Resort for 19 days because of my work in Bumthang and it was a very pleasant stay. I stayed in one of the cottages, which are very cosy and clean. Nature around the resort is extremely beautiful and it is amazing to wake up and look at the Himalays right outside the window. One day I woke up and the clouds were so low that they seemed to be right outside my window. Chumey is at a pretty high altitude.
Miss Pema, who is managing the resort, is an amazing woman. She went out of her way to find special food and delicacies for me and my colleague, who stayed in one of the other cottages.
The service was excellent and the young girls serving us breakfast and dinner every day were very kind and sweet.
The worst part was leaving this peaceful, quiet and beautiful place!

We had a wonderful three night stay at the Chumey Resort in Bumthang. We stayed in the suite which was very big and had amazing views of the surrounding farms and paddyfields. It was a bit removed from the town (15 min drive), but that was the reason why it was so quiet an peaceful at night.

Bumthang is a bit higher in elevation than Paro, so the nights are colder, and it is a little drier and harder to breathe. But the beds are comfortable (a real king bed, instead of two twins pushed together), and the service is great.

Pema, the manager is lovely and makes it a point to get to know her guests and make sure their requests are granted (if possible). Electricity and the wifi is a bit spotty, but you are in a relatively more undeveloped part of Bhutan, so this was fine.

Food is also generally better than the other hotels/B&Bs in Bhutan. They make their own bread loaves and buckwheat noodles from scratch (we helped to make these with a wooden noodle press that you sit on), and make a very good breakfast of scrambled eggs and homemade pancakes. If you've gone to Bhutan, you'll know this is better than the average food you get! (In general, food is not a focus in Bhutan.)

We also had this really "adventurous" trek from the resort to the oldest (recorded) tree in Bhutan. It was difficult but fun. If you do this, expect to hack your way through bamboo groves, cross rivers on fallen tree logs, and the occasional jungle tick.

All in all a wonderful stay in a lovely resort!

I visited the delightful Chumey Resort for lunch on a recent trip through Bhutan and was taken by the beautiful location, wonderful food, excellent service and the general feeling of peace and serenity. The setting is very picturesque, surrounded by mountains, overlooking fields and an ancient temple. The accommodation and dinning room are quite elegant with wonderful views. There is a very gracious woman managing the resort who provided excellent service and a most amazing lunch of 7 vegetarian dishes at our request even though we were the only guests that day. This tranquil oasis is a perfect place for nature walks, bird watching and historic sites in a most peaceful and serene location.

The suite we stayed in is filled with antiques and spacious. Enormous windows give a vieuw on a temple and summer palace of the king. In the fields the farmers are harvesting the buckweat. The management is among the best of Bhutans. Our suite is great and there are also cottages hidden in the forest behind the hotel.
Fireplace offer resort in the evening.
This is a place to stay 2 nights and hike through the field, meet locals.

Even queen Fabiola from Belgium is said to have stayed in this new hotel.
