A great climb to a beautiful and enchanting view of the city. Take your time wondering the fortress - lots of surprising things to see. Don't forget to stop at the cafe for some good homemade wine and a nice meal/snack.

“Fun to Explore”

Albania is great because nothing is really off limits. At the fortress you can climb in, on, up or over almost anything!

“Vibrant and authentic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

Not just dead history but 10 hectares with homes, coffee shop and restaurant, many people living within the walls. Only 100 leke to enter. Worth the walk. If you can bargain with one who lives in the walls for a tour, they can show you points of interest you may not otherwise locate.

Interesting Byzantine churches from as early as 13th century, ancient water cistern, walls and great views of Berat all included. Highly recommended

“Beautiful fortress above the same beautiful village”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

Not only because of its old, well-preserved architecture of the fortress, but there's also a little community village inside the fortress where ppl still live there which gives it extra special after all! Standing at the top of fortress gives you the whole view of the village beneath you and you will find a lot of interesing things while walking in the fortress!

“Views”

Worth the hike up the hill and the later steps for great views over the hundreds of windows in the Ottoman old town of Berat. And the fortress is not a 'dead ruin' but a vibrant community of homes with a few shops and cafes. The cobblestones can be a little rough - tread carefully.
