“Not worth the price tag.”
Reviewed September 22, 2011

We initially booked for 6 nights. They had a special where you book 2 nights and get 1 free.

The resort is set in a rainforest on a slope leading down to the beach. It's lovely and well-maintained. The bungalows are basic, rustic and spartan. That's good and bad. The bathroom is open-air with no hot water. On a steamy day, it's wonderful. In the wet season, it's cold and miserable or you don't shower and stay smelly. The room is clean and there is no AC, just fan-cooled, but that's not bad being so close to the beach and sea breeze.

The Vietnamese staff are very friendly and nice. Always smiling and polite.

The gentleman owner is very helpful, friendly and welcoming.

The lady owner is a little quieter but also nice.

The private beach is well, private but full of rubbish both on the sand and floating in the ocean. I found 5 pieces of broken glass while walking around the water when I called this to their attention, they didn't care and looked at me weirdly because I had picked them up for recycling.

The location is very far away from the town and the conditions of the roads to town are average at best. Only way to town is motorbike and taxi. So if you're like me and my boyfriend who cannot ride, it's just an expensive cab ride to town.

The restaurant/bar was the only we could eat at. We are strict vegetarians and it is entirely my own fault that I didn't look into the menu and realise that they only had a handful of veg options. So, after 3 meals, we'd already tried everything. The food that we ordered was fresh and tasty, but small. Although, it was incredibly disappointing that they had a major lack of fruit, this is during their SUMMER season and there was no mangoes or coconuts on site, despite them boasting that they visit the market daily. There were also many vegetables that were on the menu that were unavailable. But as I later discovered, they were all on sale at the local markets nearby, go figure.

One meal we order a Vietnamese specialty, Morning Glory or Water Spinach/Swamp Cabbage stir-fried with garlic. You can get this at ANY restaurant in Vietnam. It is often the cheapest thing on the menu. When the dish came out, it was small and they only gave us the stems, none of the leaves. Plus it was triple the price as anywhere else I've ordered it Vietnam. Very disappointing.

So, because of the lack of food options and I felt that the food and the bungalow was not deserving of the price tag placed on them, I checked out 3 days early.

We ended up staying in a small hotel in town for a quarter of the price, got to eat at lots of different restaurants and the abundance at the night markets (if you're a seafood lover, this is where you want to go!), plus Long Beach is so much cleaner and more beautiful especially at sunset. Enjoy.

I am really sorry you felt that way about our place. You came during the rainy
season and this changes all the perspectives.
It is true that we don’t have more than 30 vegetarian items on our menu. But we
are NOT a vegetarian restaurant. We are mostly a seafood restaurant. Comparing
our food with cheap sidewalk restaurants is a mistake. What about the hygiene
conditions? Some restaurants do not have running water and they clean your
favorite vegetables with water… from bottles. Where is this water coming from?
I have no idea. Can we compare those restaurants which invest on a cart and
a few plates, with a restaurant by a beach, with all the expenses in the infrastructure,
logistics and staff for service and maintenance? Up to you.
You came in the middle or after storms. Those storms can carry a lot of carbage coming
from… the place where you moved to. Saying that the beach close to the river
which crosses the town (if you smell what I mean), is cleaner than ours 10 km away is against the truth.
Also when you came you had a choice of rooms with hot water. Now you do not have the
Choice: all our rooms are equipped with hot water by solar system!

Bo is one of those very last pieces of unspoiled paradise on Earth. The rooms are beautifully done and in the middle of the jungle, the staff and service is fantastic, the food couldn't be fresher and the beach is private and incredible!

If you are looking for a romantic stay with excellent food, unspoiled nature, friendly people, this is for you. A taste of Robinson Crusoe. Far from the town, but that is what we have liked.
Really a nice place.

My fiancé and myself stayed at this 'resort' over eight months ago, and I have never had a worse hotel experience. Firstly, the accommodation itself is atrocious, open to the jungle bungalows that have no electricity in the evenings or running water. I am a seasoned traveller and have slept far worse in Afghanistan, but for the £40 price tag this is ludicrous. Further, the beach is filled with rubbish and is not a pleasant experience. Perhaps the most important point: this place is a huge rip off. You can stay at a much nicer place on long beach for 1/4 the price. What really takes the cake is that this place is actively ripping off the local Vietnamese as well. They advertise massages for upwards of £20, which for Vietnam is exceptionally expensive. What me and my fiancé discovered after we left Bo resort and moved to long beach however was that the ladies that offer massages on the beach there (for 3 dollars an hour) are actually called in to Bo Resort for customers and are paid 3 dollars an hour! This place is ripping off not only the guests but also the locals. When we checked out early from this place because it sucks they blackmailed us into forking over another nights worth of money by refusing to give us back our passports. Don't make our mistake! Avoid this 'resort' at all costs!!!!

I don’t know who wrote this review, but it is too ugly and dreadful to be true.
We advertize that we are close to Nature. We have fans and warm water by solar system. This is not close to Afghanistan...
Some facts mentioned here are actually known only by locals, but applied to our resort. That brings me to think that this has been written by a disloyal competitor. A Resort next to us is actually doing what is said in that review: calling fake (cheap) masseuses from Long Beach. We have ONE masseuse, always the same, who is a young mother and she is coming every day, her name is Mai. Should I show her phone number? She had been trained before by a big French Hotel group. The massages she gives are exactly the same as the ones she was doing before at $36/hour. And we charge $14. It is a massage on a massage bed, not on the sand. Where did those people see £20+ ? Since when $14 is £20+? Is the £ so low?
This is against the truth.
They also say we “rip off” the locals. What locals? They just don’t come here, as our concept is not for them…
We are holding the passports? this is also against the truth: We do not hold our guests’ passports: As people usually know, in Vietnam we have to register all our guests to the Police. So from here, we have to take the passports and bring them to town. It happens that sometimes the Police does not return them on time and we have to wait.
Thank you to Tripadvisor to give owners a chance to answer to fake reviews like this one.

We had a horrible experience at this place. The rooms were horrible, the beach was horrible, the prices were ridiculous and the owners were unfriendly. All they want is your money and they will con you out of it. When we tried to leave early we were threatened (they withheld our passports) until we gave them more money. Stay somewhere else!!

Wow! What can i say?
Take some Zyrtec, if you are that angry it might help... Or have you been asked (or paid) to write this?
Caution: Zyrtec has side effects, don't drink when you take it... or you get more angry.

Again: We DO NOT HOLD our guests' passports. Why would we? people starts to realize that BO is one of the only quiet places on the island, so we are full most of the time...
In Vietnam everybody sleeping somewhere has to be REGISTERED TO THE POLICE the night when they arrive. You do not see it when you sleep in a town close to the Police precinct. As we are 10km away, sometimes we have delays. This is transparent for people who stay with us, but when angry people want to escape our paradise the first morning, sometimes we need to WAIT that the passports come back from the Police.

For what you pay for this place you are certainly better off staying at Mango Bay or any other hotel in the same price range. The actual beach in front of the hotel is not great but you need only walk up the beach for an outstanding swim but this is the best part of the hotel. The bungalows are also very nice and I believe all have views of the sea and the wave soundtrack. The service is so-so - allocate an hour to pay your bill. They operate a daily sign your food bill policy which ends up being confusing when you go to sign at night and you notice you have been overcharged for breakfast and they can't get hold of the staff who served you then. The food quality is less than average which is a real shame because there are few nearby alternatives and really, is food really that hard to get right, especially with a French guy and his Vietnamese wife. The food should be fantastic! The French guy hung out with his buddies and his wife tried to tiptoe around you when you were questioning your daily food bill. The only decent staff member was the restaurant manager. A real disappointment which is a shame because it just could be so great but somehow you are left feeling this hotel is only headed in one direction and that is down.

The location of this resort is ideal.. Right onto a beautiful long stretch of white sand beaches. The beach is fairly quiet as the hotel is a long way from downtown. However, you will have to share with the poor Freedomland folk that have to hike up each day :)

Jordan/Jordane is a lovely, friendly girl who will help in any way that she can and the rest of the staff are very nice.

Cabins have hot water (Unlike Freedomland or Mango) and are very clean and tidy. The one complaint would be the view as we had hoped to see the sea. However, the trees block the view from all bungalows.

At $60-80 dollars a night it is more expensive that elsewhere, but compared to the other resorts in the area it is the best deal by far.
