What a great little place. Probably the most relaxing experience of our lives and a wonderful end to our honeymoon.

The bungalows are basic but extremely clean and very charming. The fan is enough to keep you cool and it is actually quite nice sleeping under the mosquito net.

The gardens around the resort are just beautiful. Then you make you way down to the beach and it is spectacular. Probably the quietest and nicest stretch of beach on Long Beach (no people and no boats). The water is crystal clear and the beach is beautiful clean white sand.

The restaurant was really great too. Much better value than big hotels though a little more expensive then some local places I would guess. We were there for 5 nights and ate every single meal in the hotel. Partly because I was a little sick for a couple of days, but mostly because the food was good and we were lazy. The menu is fairly extensive - but because neither of us eat seafood we were a little restricted.

All of the staff were wonderful - particularly the owner Gerard. He really makes an effort to care about his guests and takes care of everything for you. He was a great host.

Overall, probably our most enjoyable hotel experience ever.

Stayed at Mai House Resort [--], Gerard Bezardin, phone [--] the middle of December 2008 for one week. It was not my number one choice in Phu Quoc as it doesn’t have some of the creature comforts that I have come to appreciate (e.g., no AC, fridge, or wifi in the room), but the other places were booked. However, I stopped in at my # 1 and # 2 places (Cassia Cottages and Sea Star Resort, both of which have those amenities), but I much prefer the beach, layout of the property and atmosphere at Mai House. It is a quiet, spacious, laid-back place, with a private beach.

I stayed in #18 ($75 taxes in), one of the 8 large bungalows and the one that is closest to the beach, so at night I would fall asleep to the sound of the surf gently lapping against the shore, and not surprisingly the same sounds greeted me as I woke each morning. The bungalow has a king size bed, mosquito netting, large ceiling fan, coffee-tea making facilities, 2 small complimentary bottles of water per day, a rattan sofa, writing desk and chair, large balcony with 2 comfortable chairs and a table, and a large bathroom with instant hot water, though no hot water in the bathroom sink and Mai House has two backup generators to ensure electricity 24/7. Housekeeping staff do a good job and I only mentioned my room number once to wait staff and was never asked again. The food is good with an extensive Vietnamese menu and a number of European dishes, though portions tend to be small. Breakfast is included and there are menu items as well as a buffet of fresh fruits, juices, and baguettes.

Given the time of year that I was there, the temperatures were comfortable with daytime highs of 28C. It cooled overnight actually necessitating the use of the comforter some nights. Don’t know how comfortable it would be during the hot season with no AC.

Mai House just got wifi in the lobby/dining room as of the beginning of December. It is free and available during restaurant hours (7:30am to 10pm), best to bring your own laptop as they only have one loaner.

This place is a very charming resort of 18 bungalows with open outlook, nicely decorated, very clean and confortable.
The wellcome of Mr Gerard & his wife Mai, is so great, you feel at home.
We had very good food , and we recommand the Steam crab with tamarind sauce, and also the carpaccio of fish.
Gerard and Mai pay so much attention to their customers , that you become at the end , very friendly with them.
We strongly recommend this place to everybody, who wants relax, enjoy the beach, good food and warm athmosphere.

Actually we didn't stay in this resort cause it was full so I don't know if the reviw is valid. In any case we decide to write it cause the place is wonderful. It has 18 bungalow made bye "terracotta" it helps to mantain the room fresh cause they don't have a/c but fan. The bath room is made in a way we never saw in vietnam (it's run by a french guy so maybe this is the reason it's diffferent from the others). The shower is in a level below the floor so water don't run, as everywhere else, around the bathroom. Well it's lovely. A bit expensive but lovely. Cottages go from 45$ to 55$ as the receptionist told us. It has also a nice restaurant.

We stayed for a week at Mai House after a trip from north to south Vietnam. We absolutely loved it. It is the best way to end a trip in Vienam. The bungalows are set in a natural setting in the garden and in front of the beach. Gerard is a wonderful host and the food is fantastic! We barely mooved from the place!
Unfortunately we booked very late so we had to move bungalows as the hotel is very popular - there we noticed that the standard of the bungolaw can vary. Unfortunately I can't remember the number of our favourite bungalow :-(
If you are looking for a spot of paradise, with no pool, no TV to ruin the quite atmosphere - that's the place to go!

My husband and I stayed at Mai house for 7 nights and we loved everything about it. Had read varying reports so was a bit cautious about what to expect.

We had the deluxe beach bungalow - it was attractively furnished, spacious and clean. Could sit on our veranda and look over the garden to the beautiful beach and ocean. No it did not have aircon, tv, internet or a pool but we did not need any of these (but I can imagine that at the hottest time of year you could appreciate some aircon).

The staff were all really friendly and efficient. The food was great. I found the menu to be a bit more varied and interesting than some of the places that we ate.

It was very quiet when we stayed - being the only guests for the first night. It was the end of the wet season and every where on the island was quiet - lucky us!!

I went to Bali 30 years ago and Phu Quoc just so reminded me of that wonderful time. Loved my $5 massages on the beach. Ate some great food and wine was not too expensive (for Asia). Would love to go back to Phu Quoc and Mai House.

Place was a dump inside don't be fooled by the pictures or reviews! You can find much better lodging than Mai House for less money up and down the beach, very old and outdated.
I've had cleaner and better accommodations camping and paid less money. At Mai House we paid $63 per night for 2 bungalows that had no A/C(South. Vietnam is hot 95F and 95%humidity), T.V or most important screens on the windows. We had lizards scurrying all over the walls chasing bugs the entire night. The ceiling fan only had 2 settings, off and high(tornado force) and the heat was dreadful. This place was far to rustic to be comfortable. The pictures of this place looked great but the overwhelming smell of mildew and mold with bugs made the place a nightmare. We planned on staying at Mai house 4 nights but checked out after only the first night. Went down the beach about a mile to a place called Sao Bien or Sea Star resort. It was completely the opposite of Mai House. It was clean and had A/C, T.V, great restaurant and sat directly on the beach for $40 per night. Our party of 4 had the best time in the world at Sea Star and plan on going back ASAP.
