Nice garden bungalow. Very cosy and relaxing place!
You get what you pay for. A nice 3-star bungalow i would say. It is right in the middle of Long beach, very nice part, the beach is clean with sunbeds and a lunchrestaurant (try the tuna).
It really is nice, but... If you like big, classy hotels were everything is new and fancy, then you shouldn't stay here. There can be some moscitos in the room, as well as a cocroach. But on the other hand, that also happend to us when se stayed at an other place next door. That is Asia! not the hotels fault.

Good to know though: the room doesnt have a toilet-door. Only à curtain. No biggie, but might be good to know... Bed is quite hard.

We stayed here one night because we missed having a pool and a refrigerator in the room. but i can really recommend tis place to others. Breakfast is ok.

Room Tip: Garden view is enough, it is very close to the beach.

When we got there from the airport with a taxi the manager at the hotell immediately checked if we had paid the toll on the way from the airport. I showed him the receipt and then he yelled at the cab driver for a while, nice of him to check that. The room was like all the other bungalows on the beach, clean, small and with air-condition. Mai house did not have a fridge and that's a minus in my book. They didn't have a pool neither but with a sea view bungalow you really don't need one. The breakfast is probably the best on long beach. So all and all a nice stay.

Stayed here in November 2012 for 3 days/2nights and it was great! Mai and her staff are wonderful.

We had 2 beach bungalows for my in-laws and my wife and our two boys ages 3 and 1. Are boys loved the beach here! The water is warm, clean, and calm. We didn't leave the resort the whole time we were there. I think if we would have stayed another day or two, which we wish we would have, we would have ventured out and explored the island a bit.

The breakfast buffet is good. Fresh fruit, juice, eggs and crepes made to order. We had lunch and dinner at the resort too. There is a good variety of Western and Vietnamese dishes and everything I had was good.

This is not a 5 star resort. It is a 3.5 star resort that is a good value, clean, comfortable and on a nice stretch of beach.

I would definitely come back!

We arrived at Mai House after 19 days of travel and were so excited to lay on the beach and just chill! Which is exactly what we did. We had the garden bungalow #27 and it was perfect for our needs. The bed was comfortable and save for 1 beetle and a resident lizard on the ceiling, our room was relatively insect free. We enjoyed laying on the beach, swimming in the ocean and drinking beers. We didn't do too much. We found the waiters at the restaurant/bar to be very attentive, housekeeping to be excellent and the check in/out process to be smooth. The included breakfast food is great! The lunch/dinner food is alright, we have had better, but the Shrimp Dim Sum was outstanding! I think we had 2 orders a day. The fish restaurant next door is excellent, coconut curry not to be missed. We took a cab to the town and ate at Ocean Bar & Grill (delicious) and one night at the Night Market where we picked out fresh seafood to eat. Overall had a wonderful time and met some lovely travelers from England to spend time with. Loved Phu Quoc, have a feeling now that the airport is in that it is going to blow up with tourism, so we are glad to say we "were there when". I'd stay at Mai House again for sure.

This is a lovely relaxed garden style resort right on the beach with individual thatched bungalows. We had 2 bungalows (no 7 and 17) and both were more than adequate. We have stayed at simaler style accomodation in other places around the world and I have to say that the ones at Mai House were generally cleaner and better maintained than some others I've stayed in (eg Vanuatu). You have to accept that a thatched roof is going to harbour some geckos and insects and if you can't possibly tolerate that then this place is not for you. However if you are realistic and accept this as part of the experience then this is a fantastic choice. The bungalows are spacious and have a little area outside for sitting at with chairs and a table. Mosquito coils are available and the beds have nets on them. The bed was a little hard for my liking but that seems to be a common problem in Vietnam. Gerard has resisted the temptation to cram as many bungalows as he can in so there is a lovely feeling of space. The gardens are beautifully tended and there is a gardener constantly watering and sweeping up leaves. The wait staff are delightful, with smiles all round at all times. The level of english was good and they were happy to try and help in any way that they could. The food was good and everything in the bar and resturant was very reasonably priced.(beer for $1.25) The resturant to the left of Mai house (as you look at the ocean) served the best seafood ever. We ate there most nights and couldn't get enough of the fresh tuna steaks ($5 or $7.50 depending on how thick you wanted the steak) The beach was clean, and the water was variable depending on the weather, sometimes it was churned up and some days it was crystal clear. The massages on the beach were great at $5 each.
We booked directly with the resort and dealt with Gerard by email and phone and he was friendly and helpful at all stages. He wasn't there when we stayed but we met his wife, Mai, who was just lovely, and wanted to know that all had gone well. Definitely would stay again and were very sad to leave this lovely part of the world

Room Tip: go for air con if possible especially when it is hot

Stayed at Mai House for over one week now i december/januari. We first had a bungalow with sea view (the one closest to the beach and restaurant) that was simple but nice. We wanted to stay som more nights and then moved to another room (standard one) which was even nicer even though it didn't have sea view. Breakfast was included and was really nice, fresh fruits, juices, eggs, bread and so on - typically continental. The location of Mai House is probably one of the best on Long beach because they have a broad strip of sand and a lot of chairs under palm trees. The water though on Long beach isn't that nice. Felt kind of dirty... I expected it to be more blue and transparent (like Koh Tao) but I didn't even se my feet. Nice anyway.
We ate ALL our meals in their restaurant and only one out of the hotel. The food is really nice and staff really cute and helpful if you like to make changes in the orders etc. So we basically never left the hotelarea for the whole time (exept for some trips). You find everything here!

Service:
The staff in the restaurant was great but sometimes there are missunderstandings because of the language. But they are always nice! The only thing I was annoyed with regarding service was when we where kind of desperate to print out our visas for Cambodia and the just said NO in the reception - "no printer, sorry". I was asking around for like one day to find an internet cafe and when we were walking up to the main street to an ATM there were an Internet Cafe like 2 minutes from our hotel. So we printed our stuff and later I went to the reception to inform them about the cafe in case other guest asks and got the answer "I know". Why didn't you tell us then... got really disappointed and thats why the servicegrade will be low. It could have been a missunderstanding but any way... the managers talk english pretty well.

Standard:
Ok standard for the price. I personally have kind of big issues with bugs (esp. Cockroaches and spiders) and be prepared to meet these in your room... Mosquito nets are available - of course!

We stayed at Mai House for four nights in December and thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
The resort is located on Long Beach with a number of other resorts on either side of it. The stretch of beach the resort is located on is very clean and the water was also very clean. While there are a a number of restaurants along the beach, we found ourselves going back to the family-owned restaurant located directly next to the resort a number of times. The hotel's restaurant was also lovely.

The bungalows are well spaced out and offer a sense of privacy (we were located in the back where the bungalows are slightly closer to each other). The rooms were well decorated and I enjoyed the simplicity of them. The grounds of the hotel are also lovely and a pleasure to walk in.

A lovely resort and highly recommended!
