“Relaxed and peaceful - loved it!”
Reviewed January 14, 2014

Stayed at Mango Bay for 8 nights and it was great. The whole layout of the resort with the bungalows tucked away on the edge of the jungle, the open spaces and sandy coves - its so nicely done and gives contact with nature and the feeling of privacy - despite being there at peak season with the resort fully booked. Loved the rustic interior design of the bungalows and common areas. It was so nice we didn`t leave resort for the whole 7 days we were there (ok, that`s a bit emberrassing, but we could`t find a reason to). We went on the sunset cruise, joined the yoga sessions a couple of afternoons and had a couple of spa-treatments at the lovely Spa. Pure relaxation, total chill out. So if you are looking for a chic eco-resort, friendly and informal service and don`t mind a bug or two, I would definitely recommend this place. I loved it!

Do it before it is too late though. Heard about all the plans for an extensive increase of tourism on Phu Quoc, and I am worried how it will effect both the island but also this resort in particular. It`s a gem as it is, and really hope it will be able to continue to be, because I would love to go back.

Room Tip: Stayed in the Plantation Bungalow witch I believe is the best choice if you are looking for ultimate...

My partner and I didn't stay at Mango Bay (it was all booked up for the time we were there!), we were actually at the resort next door. In this case I can't rightly review their cabins other than to say that they looked lovely from the outside!
I can however review with total confidence their restaurant and beach bar...we ate their twice a day for our entire holiday and we were very impressed! My partner and I are vegetarian and sadly our resort had nothing we could eat on their menu, this isn't the case for Mango Bay who have a seperate vegetarian menu (ask for it, it wasn't offered to us initially) which we sampled extensively.
The food was all lovely, and reasonably priced (for a resort anyway). The staff were very sweet and attentive to our every need.
Thoroughly recommended, next time we hope to stay there as well!

Room Tip: Their Cilantro and Lychee Gimlet is the most amazing cocktail i've had in my life!

Myself and my wife stayed at Mango Bay for four days. Khai and Charles were very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. All staff were friendly and service was top notch. We were initially worried that the property was a bit far from town and that we would be isolated. We needn't have worried: the town isn't particularly attractive, nor are there many restuarants worth heading in for (as best as we could tell). If we really wanted to head into town (which I did one afternoon for a shave), the hotel has a free shuttle service or one can rent a scooter cheaply. The hotel has a number of beaches one can access, all with comfy deck chairs. Food at the restaurant was fresh and tasty and is highly recommended. The decking overlooking the water, with a cocktail in hand, made for great sundowners. Rooms were large and comfy. The outdoor shower/toilet was a treat! An aircon might be nice, but understand that it doesn't gel with the resorts eco-friendly ethos. The fan does the job, but can be a bit noisy for a light sleeper.

We had 5 nights at Mango Bay and the only disappointing thing was, we didn't have longer! Right from the moment you arrive, you know its something a bit special. It is set in an incredible spot amidst lots of mature trees, a stroll of 40m or so to a beautiful little beach with clean, clear water. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, they've found the perfect balance of eco-friendly and luxury (ie no tv's or phones in the rooms, but wi fi everywhere), the rooms are fresh and clean, and the outside bathrooms fantastic. Lots of little touches like the staff coming around in the evening to light mosquito coils and put the nets down, sun set cruise with cocktails - lots of activities and rental are free, snorkels, canoes etc. Plenty to do if you want to do something, but generally you find yourself doing very little, just enjoying the serenity of such a beautiful spot. The only downside for me personally was the noise of the crickets in the early hours - like i've never heard before, maybe take some ear plugs if you want to sleep in!! All in all, the best place we've visited and cant wait to go back!

We spent nine nights in this wonderful resort over Christmas & New Year & loved every minute of it. We wanted somewhere away from the hustle & bustle & that is what we got!

There are so many positives to this place it is hard to remember them all!! The free airport pickup & drop-off is a great service; the arrival with a cool juice and washer & explanation of the resort is well done.

Bungalows - these are fantastic! We stayed in a plantation bungalow which was very spacious, with a large verandah, sun beds and table and chairs. The outdoor bathroom is perfect - yes there are some visitors from an occasional snail, frog or gecko - but this is what nature is all about! Not having a TV enforces old fashioned relaxation - reading books! There are no fridges in the rooms - an icebox is available & you can order ice to keep drinks cool.

Staff - the staff are very helpful. The reception desk staff are exceptional and it seems that all staff really do go out of their way to help. The wait staff catered efficiently to all needs in the restaurant. It was really good to see the GM & Charles (assistant manager?) out amongst the guests chatting & checking on everyone's stay - a great personal touch.

Food - the restaurant is beautifully located just metres away from the water & has a great menu with daily specials. Breakfast is good with beautiful baskets of fresh fruit & bread & then selection of either western or Vietnamese options - with several options within each. The beach bar also does great food & the BBQ was exceptional - a small BBQ is set-up at the end of your table & you can BBQ your own food (seafood, meat, vegetables) or get some assistance if required. The cocktails are great!

General - the resort is situated a good 10-15 minutes from the main town, which is why it is so peaceful. They offer a shuttle bus into town several times a day (aligned with airport pickups) which is useful. Taxis from town only cost $8-10. Hiring a motor bike for the day is easy & worthwhile to explore the island. There are many activities available - quite a few free.
The beaches are great if you have young children & there are sun beds set up over an extensive area - two separate locations. There are other resorts located nearby if you feel like a change of scenery.

Yes would definitely return!

From it's location on the beach, to it's exceptional restaurant and bar, to it's helpful and personable staff this was probably the best place we stayed in all of Vietnam.

The Good:

1. Unquestionably great restaurant and bar.
2. Very accommodating and personable staff
3. We dig the eco-friendly vibe, the music they played and the general look of the place
4. Two great beaches

The Not-so-good

1. Their rooms may lack the privacy and facilities some might desire/require
2. Very expensive for Vietnam
3. Pretty far from anything else on the island (could be good and bad)

We loved this place for all the careful attention to detail, food, customer service and general vibe. The music was so good we wanted to get a playlist but unfortunately they couldn't provide one. We stayed in the family bungalow P 01 which was good for our family but I would stay in other rooms next time as we were too near to the house maids drop off point and were woken too early in the morning by the days work chatter starting. Also, the bungalows are open to the elements...and the bugs, the design is fine but I would have preferred mesh at the openings to prevent the critters coming in so much with the lights on.
