“A great base to explore from”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

We stayed the 2nd week in November in a beach view bungalow (semi-detached). Very nice room, basic bathroom facilities but clean. We ate in the Sunset Bar on two occasions, which was good quality but not as good value for money as you get in other close-by places (night market or Ganesh). Alcoholic drinks are quite expensive also in the resort bars. Breakfast is quite good and covers most tastes (5.30am to 10.30am).
The resort is 10 minutes walk from the Night Market and it is well worth just walking down at about 7.30pm (the boats get in at 5.00pm and unload their catch), it is safe enough to dander down but if you are nervous take one of the hotel bikes, hire a motorbike (20,000VND - >£1) or hail a taxi from just outside the resort (31,500 VND - >£1.50).
There were a lot of Russians, a few French, a few Germans, a few English and a few Scandinavians. If you like to sun bathe on the beach, you will have to get up early to reserve the sun loungers with shade, the most are gone by 8am.
It is a quiet resort, so if you like a bit of buzz it is worth going to Rorys Amigos (taxi drive away) or the Drunk N' Monkey (5 minute walk). We enjoyed the resort, the staff were friendly, it was clean (didn't see a single rat or any traces) it is a great base from which to explore the island.

I stayed at the Saigon Phu Quoc Resort last weekend and was not impressed. We opted for a beach view bungalow, which was the only redeeming factor, seeing the ocean while laying in bed and hearing the waves. Also, the bed was extremely comfortable and the staff was very sweet.

The hotel is extremely dated and they should not be charging the fees that they do. For the amount we paid, I stayed in the Hyatt Da Nang last spring, which was 10 x nicer. Everything in this hotel is dated (Except the bungalow) - the "gym" has equipment from the 80s, the dining room definitely hasn't been renovated since then. But I guess when you go to an island you're there for the beach.. so again, that the redeeming factor.

The breakfast was meh. Their taxi service charged us $5 to go down the street.

In general, I don't like staying at Saigon Tourist facilities (it's Government run and owned)

Room Tip: The beach bungalow was worth the upgrade

We were welcomed with our names on the LCD screen at the entrance. Service was friendly. We were taken to our rooms which were very welcoming- basket of complimentary fruit and Dalat wine. They room had an essential oil burner which was alight and added to the "enjoy your holiday" welcome to the hotel. It was a very quiet hotel, as in there were no children, just a lot of Russian tourists who pretty much enjoyed sun bathing. Our room way
s in the garden area but faced the beach. The beach itself was clean and nice, but as we walked along the beach we found that some other hotels had better parts of the beach.
The housekeeping staff were absolutely adorable and so were the kitchen staff that served on the night time buffet. Breakfast was awesome, with your choice of European or Asian. Lovely dining area.

The restaurant by the beach was lovely and the seafood buffet at night time was lovely too as you pick your own sefood and they cook it up right there for you.

Lovely pool to relax and swim.

Free bike hire. Close to other restaurants and shopping. But not close to the centre of town, which we didn't mind anyway.

My mother in law had a few massages at the spa which she really enjoyed too, not far from our rooms.

All in all it was a lovely stay. We really couldn't complain, it was pretty much perfect! We'd stay there again, no questions asked.

When over there paid visit to other higher class hotels(Veranda-Casia etc.) along the shore while walking allong the beach(= clean and soft sand no sandflies).I Concluded i made the correct choice with SPQ hotel. Is also close to nigth market (10 minutes)
Best pool and pool bar, stayed in front beach room, superior view-clean linen and all as should (bed -cabinets-fridge-bathroom-balcony etc).Had one night fish BBQ buffet, price /quality is correct. All you can eat.
Very friendly staff(all).Great breakfast with all you want(both Western & Asian).

We stayed here for 6 days and the resort itself was quite nice. Nice pool, and we actually saw someone testing the quality of the water. We didn't risk swimming in the ocean, as there was a lot of pollution on the beach, which was swept up as best as possible every morning. The staff were really nice.We hired a motorbike and tried to find Sao Beach, which was VERY difficult, as the map was totally wrong. The surrounding area was extremely poor and very polluted.

I have been for 4 days and I enjoy the place. The breakfast is quite good with fresh food and options with local breakfast choices. The sunset bar and the one next the pool are nice and also the staff is nice , the only problem the speed, but I guess in this season are under staff and so a bit slow! The room clean and always Internet and service working.
