Description: Hieu's Family Restaurant has been in operation for 24 years. It began when the family provided food on the beach for the few early tourists to Phu Quoc. There was not even a building at the beginning, just chairs on the beach. In time the family rented space to serve tourists, but each time in each location, the rent was increased, so the family had to move. Still the regulars managed to find it each time they returned. "The food is so good and so inexpensive, why eat anywhere else?" This is a common comment about Hieu's. Finally the restaurant has found a permanent home in a lovely garden attached to the family house. Though more off the beaten path, the regulars are still finding it and telling others. The restaurant is now located off Tran Hung Dao St., about 200 meters up the small alley next to Canary Hostel. Look for the big green sign that says Canary, and head up the hill.

Great seafood. Fresh and Good portions too. One of the best meals we've ever had. The owner looks a kind of laidback but I just call it cool. Try the stuffed crispy squid: delicious! Also prawns and crab.
It's a simple place right on Long Beach.
But I say: KISS. Keep it stupid simple. Nothing wrong about that!

“A simple setting but really good food and amazing value”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

If you look beyond the red plastic tablecloths and palm roof, Hieu is a great restaurant. The seafood was fantastic - lots of choice and very well cooked - and we also would pop round here for drinks during the day/in the evening due to the great value!

“Don't walk past!”
Reviewed May 29, 2012

Easy to ignore this unassuming little place on the beach, but don't. Not much for ambience sitting in plastic chairs under a tattered tarp system for shelter..but then just look up and remember that you are on the beach in paradise looking out into the Gulf of Thailand!
At first the owner (?) seems a little unfriendly, but that's not the case. He's just kind of laid back.
We had snacks here a couple times. The food is fresh and tastes like authentic home cooking. Amazing springrolls and cheap beers. A must stop for an afternoon beer and a snack!

“authentic!”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

we walked past it for about a week, as it doesn't look to inviting and we didn't want to get sick at the beginning of our trip. but we went there twice and the food is excellent! really nice and big portions for a reasonable price! they have a large menu with curry, fish, rice, chicken, ... anything you can really think of in vietnam. just give it a try! ;)

“Simply delicious!”
Reviewed March 25, 2012

A palm roof on the beach, and plastic tables and chairs on the sand...

Yet, I ate here (and will eat again), some of the best and freshest seafood in my life!

The stuffed (with pork and rice) squid is outstanding, delicate, tasty, with a sublime broth.

So are the fried prawns, the quality of the raw material (giant and extremely tasty), and so is the subtle cooking, again, with a wonderful sauce, a prawn "fumet" (made with the carcass french style, but added nuoc nam). Just simply delicious.

I also ordered "macaroni with pork" as a side dish, being curious why there are "macaroni" in Vietnam... bad idea, just ignore this part of the menu.

Went there twice and will definitively go back, fo lunch.
