“Great Food”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

We were staying at Mango Bay and managed to leave the sun lounger to walk 15 minutes up the road here. Its a family owned restaurant with a good range of local dishes and as with most places in Vietnam serving fresh food. The staff were friendly and the owner, Kiem was helpful in explaining how to cook our hotpot. We definitely over ordered but the reviews had been so good we wanted to try a bit of everything. We ordered the beef hot pot, fried fish (very tasty!) and fresh spring rolls. All the food was wonderful. Well worth seeking out if you on Phu Quoc.

“Traditionally basic and delicious!”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

Sakura restaurant is owned and operated by a local family, it is located between the bushes and very basic looking.

Initially we visited this place solely for its affordability and not for the views, the magnificent scenery was to be found at our relatively expensive resort ; Mango Bay on just a ten minute walking distance. Nevertheless, after eating once at Sakura, we both concluded that we were eating better spring rolls and curries as anywhere else in Vietnam yet, we came back two times after that. You will receive the service you can expect when being served by family members who daily run the place, casual but very friendly and dedicated. TIP: (Without raising the prices too much ;) Maybe a bit more dining atmosphere could be created; some lights facing or inside the bush, lightening inside less bright, some wind candles on the tables, some plants in and around the restaurant and possibly some traditional music?

I appreciated the fact that this is such a traditional and undiscovered place, the food was fantastic.

“Great food and nice atmosphere”

Sakura has really, really nice food and the location (a bit remote) is very special. Cheap food, good quality, nice people.

“Delicious food”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

During our stay in the Mango Bay Resort, we were looking for a more affordable place to have dinner. A front office agent recommended the restaurant Sakura which is a 5-6 mins. walk from the resort. The basic decor and simple open layout of the restaurant doesn't give any hint of the culinary treat you are going to experience - the food was simply delicious, excellent flavours, fresh ingredients and of great quality.

I can highly recommend the fried vegetarian spring rolls, chicken with lemongrass and chilli or the chicken with coconut sauce...fantastic and I never tasted that again in Vietnam. Don't miss to try the fresh juices as well.

It is just as low priced as in Hanoi. The service is very friendly, immediately welcoming you or helping you to get out of your wet poncho after a ride through the rain. Kiem, the lovely owner with a tragic history, is so authentic and I wish her many many more of such satisfied guests.

“Worth the Travel”
Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

Firstly you will have to jump in a taxi !

The restaurant is situated north of the main town and off the beaten track. Restaurant staff will gladly arrange taxis back to your resort.

A warm reception at the restaurant which is a covered area in the jungle. The menu explains how the owner came to be there from WW2 onwards.

The food is diverse with many dishes on offer I think all at cheaper rates than the beach resorts...but it gets better. The food is simply fantastic...having been in Vietnam for 3 weeks we thought nothing could surprize us. Wow how wrong we were....fantastic spices, tastes and portion sizes from wonderful staff who just want you to enjoy yourselves.

Only other people at the restaurant were tourist...our party of 4 ate and travelled for less than we did on the beach resort the night earlier.

Honestly think you should give this place a try.
