The hotel is located in Long Beach, in a very quiet area but close to good restaurants and bars. We had a garden view bungalow for less than 35 euro with Agoda (August is low season in Vietnam) with breakfast included. The food is very good (one of the best in Phu Quoc) and breakfast is very good too which is not always the case in Vietnam when it is included in the price of the room... the staff is very nice, professional, always trying to help you. The bungalow is quite minimal but very clean and comfortable. The beach is in front of the hotel and you can enjoy long chairs (without matress). We really recommand this place.

The room that they called bungalow is just 4 walls without anything inside.
No tv, no phone, water, no fridge. Open the door, it is unbelievable. Just a bamboo bed, a toilet and a table. It's so poor.
The price is not cheap, it is 50$/night.
And it is not the same to website picture (like acient house).
Breakfast is so terrible

Room Tip: Arrive to consider the room after check in.

We stayed here in April of 2012 for 5 nights. The staff were very accomodating and nice. One of my friends got bit by something and his arm swelled up. The staff took him to the docotr and helped to translate. They were always very helpful in doing anything you asked to make your stay better. Unfortunately, probably due to the time of year we went, there was garbage up and down the beach on a daily basis. We were told it was from the ocean currents at that time of year. Nobody ever seemed to try to clean it up though. The water was also very warm, not the resorts fault, but probably our fault for my poor planning. The hotel does the trick, but it's not luxurious by any means. There are a lot of places to eat and drink nearby, and the prices are cheap. We rented scooters for the day for about $5 USD per person. We then explored the island and went to a beach in the south. Overall, great time, just a few issues.

We chose the Mai Spa after researching on a couple of sites.....after booking we then read a few negatives reviews and were uncertain what to expect. We were not disappointed. It is as it says on the tin. Very natural, rustic rooms......clean & functional, basic yes but loved it. We had garden view...those with a sea view had it even better.
The restaurant had only been open 2 months but produced the most wonderful food.....delightful staff who did their very best to ensure our stay was enjoyable at all times. Some confusion arose on occasions due to language problems......but the staff spoke far more English than I did Vietnamese and made up for my inadequacies. Fresh fish (often still breathing) barbecues every night on the beach, no MSG used in the cooking.....we did visit a couple of other restaurants but decided this was pointless when we had the best on our doorstep.
If I ever visit Phu Quoc again I would book into Mai Spa without question.

We stayed here longer than we anticipated while we worked out the retrieval of a backpack lost in transit. Staff was very helpful in that process and comped us massages. The
only great massage I had in Vietnam. (spoiled by Thai massage). Place its in need of a garden and it would be most lovely. from our room in the back a had to cross an unattractive area or walk through reception to the beach. Nice beach area. Breakfast on the beach. convenient to town.

The hotel staff really have to be commended at Mai Spa. Almost without exception they are friendly, ready to help and really take pride in looking after guests. The hotel itself is certainly pleasant and is based around a lovely traditional wooden house. Unfortunately the beach bungalows aren't built in a similar style and are reminiscent of the ubiquitous concrete villas found on any Asian coastline. But they are very comfortable, have good air con and hot water. The food is also very good and certainly to be recommended. It's a very pleasant resort and if I find myself here again, would return to Mai Spa. PS there are caged monkeys on site which don't look very happy. I'm not sure if they're part of the hotel but it would be much better to see them in more appropriate conditions.

Great location and good little feet in the sand beach restaurant BBQ nightly.
Very poor rooms especially for the price. Bare brick walls, no bedside table lights.
hard beds ,pillows. My wife described it as a prison cell with mosquitos.
