“Awesome value for money, amazing location, total relax”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2013 via mobile

We found this place by total chance, was expecting the island to be quite expensive but we were actually very positively surprised. A double bungalow with fan and private bathroom goes for 15$ per night, the restaurant is quite reasonably priced too, about 1$ for a bottle of beer, 1,5$ for a plate of fried rice with meat and 7$ for a BBQ whole red snapper. The place is really really nice, private beach, free lounge chairs and lounge beds. We rented a scooter for 3$, usefull to get to the town for market and local attractions. From the beach several other bars and restaurants are accessible so if you just want to relax there is no need for scooter. Really nice thing is that this beach has no acquascooters or noisy motorboats.

Stayed here for 3 nights in a hotelroom with a doublebed with my partner in mid-March 2013, and we would have stayed longer if it wasn't for the following incidents:

Cons:

- The air condition was sub-par, and I'm not exaggerating when I'm saying it would take a good hour to notice any cool or freshness in the room after getting it going.
- Room didn't have Wi-fi, had to go down to the reception to go online.
- Nhat Lan had a power-generator that kept failing and this could happen at any time of the day or night, so when it went out you had no hot water or AC for an unknown period of time,
- The rooms were cleaned daily, but when the staff finished your room they would leave the key in the lock in the outside if the door.. Which still baffles me!
- The main reason we left, the last drop, was when a man entered our room without knocking, while my girlfriend was lying on the bed, not dressed, and reading. As we had read in TripAdvisor earlier that people had been robbed at this hotel before we decided to pack our things and find something else, because things started to look fishy. We confronted the staff at the reception about it and they told us it was an electrician who was on his way to fix the air condition unit. Sure, it may have been, but they should have told us about it on beforehand.
- Ants and Mosquitos were spotted over the entire room, not a deal breaker, but definitely not a plus.

Pros:

+ Hotel is located around 20 meters from the beach!
+ The bathroom was new, had all sorts of accessories (comb, shampoo, toothbrush etc) and when the generator worked, the hot water lasted a long time.
+ Price was good for its location, got the price down to 25$ from 30$ so there's room for bargaining.

We stayed here for 11 days in a Bungalow with fan no AC. The Bungalow was simple no luxury, the bed was a little to hard. But they cleaned every day and were helpful and friendly. There are free WiFi that works ok. The restaurant at the beach serves great food for any occasion. The location is the best of Long Beach and its easy to get a cab if you want to go to the small town Duong Dong else you can rent a Moto for 5$ a day. Its a great stay for budget travelers.

The English of staff was weak but they knew what you wanted. It's family run, lots of cute kids around. We showed up and booked AC. After 3 of 4 nights they ended up replacing a broken AC unit. They gave us a discount because of this. The location couldn't be better. Wifi was awesome. Rent a moods for $7/day to see island. Massage on the beach. Awesome affordable food.
I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. I'd just bring a little patients for no AC or getting the wrong beach house.

A friend who had arrived at the island a day earlier had sniffed out the Nhat Lan resort and we found it to be perfect for our 5 day stay on Phu Quoc Island. At the end of Long Beach the bungalow rooms are basic but comfortable with two of our group opting for a/c rooms closer to the beach with the rest of us happy with a fan in the mild conditions. All the bungalows have a couple of hammocks strung up on the front verandahs for that lazy book reading session when taking a break from the beach. The restaurant had reasonable food at a fair price but with many options along the beach we spread our money and tastebuds around. Staff were helpful and scooter/bike hire, internet cafes and small shops all nearby and the main town a healthy stroll or short cab ride away, this is resort is worthwhile for the budget conscious.

First of all I have to say our trip didn't start great in Phu Quoc. We thought we'd arrive in Phu Quoc early to look around so we didn't make reservation. But the ferry we took from Ha Tien to Phu Quoc was almost 5 hours late (later I learned it happens quite regularly).

This late at night the only option we had was to follow other foreigners. We all jumped into a mini van. The driver stopped at every hotel and told us to get out to see if we like it. We didn't want any of them because they were expensive ($50-80 USD) and far away from the downtown area. We were tired and frustrated.

After seeing 6 or 7 of them, we finally gave up looking. We picked a clean/basic room at Nhat Lan and bargained with two men from $40/night down to $35 USD for four nights. The next day we found out from a lady receptionist (also the only person there who has no trouble communicating in English) that $35 is actually the regular high season rate (usually $15-20 during low seasons). Not the best first impession.

We didn't pick a bungalow, rather a room with a/c on the second floor of the main building. The room was basic but comfortable enough. The refrigerator in the room we stayed sometimes made a loud vibrating sound. We didn't tell Nhat Lan or to request a room change because it was the end of our trip in Vietnam we just didn't want to bother so it's certainly not their fault.

We wanted to be near the downtown area, nevertheless, Nhat Lan's location right on the Long Beach turned out to be the best experience for us. We loved to swim or to hang out on the beach anytime we felt like it. We enjoyed riding on a motorbike (about 15-20 minutes to the downtown area), which was rented from Nhat Lan (can't remember the exact price, should be around $6-8USD/day). We loved to have breakfast in the restaurant where you can put your feet in the soft sand and enjoy the beautiful view.

Nhat Lan, from my understanding, is operated by a family. Sure they are not professional and there can be some improvement (e.g. service or English communication skill) but that doesn't bother us. If they're important to you and you don't mind paying more, look somewhere else. Nevertheless Phu Quoc itself is worth a vist. We've been to some of the best beaches all over the world (e.g. Bali, Thailand, Philippines and Mexico) we love Phu Quoc for the fact that it's convenient enough for tourists and at the same time not too overly developed and not too pricey. Definitely return here!

We stayed 5 nights and had to move bungalows 3 times.
Bungalow 19 smelled of damp, had a very bad water pressure in the shower. Located at the rear of the garden, close to reception.
Bungalow 21 was ok except for the water leak coming from the roof. There was a massive storm on the second night, and we were flooded. They never did anything about it when we moved out, and resold the room in the same state to new customers.
Bungalow 14 was the best we had. Was supposed to cost 20 dollars a night (smaller room, but closer to the beach).
The mattresses were not the best, but we managed. Power cuts one day out of two.
2 hammocs available for each bungalow.
The restaurant was all right, except for the fish in the evenings that did not look fresh AT ALL. Wifi was ok in the bungalow. Very quiet resort (no roosters, no barking dogs, no karaoke, no traffic, no loud music). Nice garden. Nice beach.

Room Tip: I would not pay more than 15 dollars for these bungalows. They ask up to 20 dollars for some of them...
