We had a lovely three day stay at Bamboo Cottages. We pre booked and paid a deposit via on line banking to fully secure the booking which gave us piece of mind. We booked the second 'tier' of newly built rooms that gave us a lovely view of well manicured gardens and half a view of the ocean. The room was very spacious, clean, bright and we had our own small patio where two chairs and a table could be put either in the room or on the porch area. Bathroom with a shower, toilet and sink was ensuite and the room had a fan and mosquito net, both of which were fine with the sea breeze so we didn't overheat. Food was healthy, freshly prepared and professionally presented and tasted great, and we were able to buy drinks and also any extras that we fancied on top of what was provided. Use of a shared laptop was always appreciated, and the staff were lovely and friendly, genuine, true to themselves and didn't hesitate to offer help and assistance without being over-pushy to sell trips, motorbikes etc which suited us fine. The beach is sublime, quiet, unspoilt and away from the crowds which suited us really well, so we're more than happy to forgo choice so as to be ' away from it all' which is just what Bamboo is great for. Would happily return again and we not left disappointed in any way whatsoever.

Room Tip: Two price structures, the more expensive have a direct sea view and AC (from what we could see)

Bamboo is a get-away-from-it-all kind of place; very relaxing and far from the crowds.

Good points:
- Nice spacious bungalows 20 yards from the beach.
- Delicious food (although choice was limited), reasonably priced.
- Lovely, clean, quiet beach. Occasionally marred by noisy kids, but you could walk down a little way if that was a problem and find your own almost deserted patch.
- Listening to the sound of the waves as you drift off to sleep.
- Nice, friendly, helpful staff (though a bit overworked). V helpful arranging onward travel and helping book a hotel where staff only spoke vietnamese.
- We had a lovely banquet meal on new years eve with loads of fresh seafood.
- You can hire sea kayaks with snorkelling gear and arrange some excursions, tours, etc, although we didn't try this.

Minor niggles;
- Some of the locks/doors etc in the room were fiddly.
- Service wasn't quite up to the price. Although well intentioned it was slow at times; I think the staff were missing some help they were expecting at the busy time of year we stayed (New Year).
- Took ages to sort out final bill (although very accurate).
- Not cheap at least not when we stayed, compared to rest of vietnam and cambodia.
- Could use a few more sun loungers etc.

Other points:
- Rather out of the way; so if you want to go diving or sample the nightlife you'd be best to hire a motorbike. Other tour type stuff can be arranged though we did not try them as enjoyed just chilling out here too much.

Overall a lovely romantic and quiet hideaway.

We (a small crowd of 7 friends) stayed here a few days at the beginning of January. the place is a gem. There are just a few bungalows, the beach is perfect. The most important things is that the place is quite far away from city or other hotels. For us it was just great, after a very busy and loud Sihanoukville we found a paradise.
Bungalows are quite nice. Do not expect an air conditioner, however the sea breeze is a great option during a night time, even for garden-view bungalows.
However, I would like to point out a few things that, in my opinion, would make this place not just nice, but perfect.
First of all, regarding the open-air shower in bungalow - the idea is great (however, beware - i was almost hit ones by some fruit falling form the tree right into the shower). But the fact, that there was no shower cabin or bath (at least in our bungalow), was quite surprising. I got used to it, but nevertheless, i think this needs some change.
Another important thing is the food. In my opinion, if one offers a hotel away from restaurants, bars etc., he/she should provide a such services on a great level within the hotel area. However, they do not provide a choice for the lunch or dinner, just one set menu (well, at least 2-3 options would be great). The portions are quite small, and the prices are quite high, compared to what you can get in the city.
And another important thing is the level of service. I hope Felice and her parents will learn to manage such things successfully soon in the future. However, we we visited staff was friendly and nice, but very slow. Also, there were three of us in the bungalow, and we constantly had to ask for the third towel, as well as for beach towels.
Small thing like that make the great place less comfortable to stay. However, I am still very much delighted with a few days we spent there and would suggest that it is one of the best places in Phu Quoc! It is tranquil, peaceful, unique. You might need to relax and try not to worry about a slow service, and just enjoy the sun and the sea.
Tip: rent a bike and go just a little bit north - there are great beaches where you can enjoy beautiful sunset

Bamboo is a lovely setting and our bungalow on the beach was comfortable. Staff are friendly but could be much more attentive and overall the customer service was lacklustre. We left feeling disappointed, particularly with the food. They only do a set menu for lunch and dinner and whilst the food is nice, the service is at times excruciatingly slow i.e. 2 hour wait (particularly given that by making it all a set menu it should be quick and easy), the servings are quite small and it wasn't very good value for money. Also it would be good if they sold snacks or light meals throughout the day. Because Bamboo is in a quiet bay there aren't very many other food options except for the resort next door (excellent food and good prices) and the locally run restaurant a short walk down the beach (only open for lunch but great seafood). Breakfast was nice but again, small portions and also at times ridiculously slow, one morning we waited an hour and a half for our breakfast and it would be nice if there was endless coffee and tea instead of one tiny cup, particularly when you have to wait so long for food!

The bungalow was spacious but the pillows are very big and hard and whilst you would expect a beach hotel to have beach towels Bamboo never had any spare, so take your own if you have room in your luggage. Phu Quoc is a very big island with the majority of the roads being dirt so it takes a while to get anywhere from Bamboo, for example on the motorbike it's nearly 2 hours to Bai Sao beach and 40 mins into the town.

We went to Phu Quoc for the weather and the beach. The culture and life of Vietnam we had sampled elsewhere. The villas are well presented with an open air bathroom to the rear, and there is a relaxed, informal atmosphere. The food is excellent. Some other reviews cite niggly things like the food taking half an hour to come, the odd forgotten drink order because some of the staff don't speak english, and the occasional dog bark. Chill out! That's in the nature of the place - it's not some bland corporate hotel or resort. It's run with heart by real people.

All prices on Phu Quoc are high compared to the Vietnam mainland but Bamboo's prices compare well to the resorts around it. We quickly realised that, for us, Bamboo was the best of the bunch. I say again, the food was great.

The beach is fine golden sand, and the blue sea is the warmest, cleanest & nicest I have ever swam in. And while there are other nice beaches on the island, Vong Bau was the best. It's still unspoilt. Let's hope it stays that way but I suspect the developers are not far away.

Bamboo is 30/40 min by motorbike ($10 per bay) from the main town Duong Dong so you are a bit away from the island's heartbeat if that's what you want. But for us it was nice to be away from the main town which, in itself, is really nothing special and too touristy.

It's one of the very few paces I've been, where I would go back again and stay in the same place.

Room Tip: Pay a couple of dollars more for the sea view.

Excellent location and friendly staff. Service often too slow for drinks and meals. Could not lock from the inside of the room, and while the resort is safe, guests need to lock their cabins for privacy as well as security.

The lack of power during the day means it's that bit more inconvenient to charge phones, cameras. The family pet dogs are nice, but their barking at night isn't.

Agree with the set menu: the food was light and tasty and the placing of the cottages so close to the beautiful and safe and warm sea is great!

A group of us spent 3 nights at bamboo cottages and overall it was a good time. We all stayed in the beachfront rooms and as expected, these were quite bare but well decorated. The beach is a few steps away and the water was beautiful and perfect for swimming. We did a snorkeling trip which was good but the boats stop for a while to include line fishing which isn't mentioned when the trip was sold. I would have preferred this time to be spent at the snorkeling locations.

Upon reflection of our time there, our group felt that the price of the rooms did not match the level of service we received. The location is stunning and the rooms nice but drinks and food service at the restaurant was extremely slow (eg. waited 30 mins for a gin and tonic) and on more than one occasion, orders were forgotten. When we did receive the food it was quite tasty. We live in HCMC so compare prices to that in the city and felt that their water program was quite expensive and would have liked tea and coffee making facilities in the room. It would have also been nice if we had automatically been given an extra set of towels for use at the beach and some extra toiletries like shampoo and a comb. It had a high end backpackerish feel to it which the price does not reflect.

I think If the restaurant fixed their effeciency issue the property could be great. Also, if small complimentary items like water or a fruit basket were included, it would also help guests feel like they're getting more value. I would recommend this place to escape the city and have some time to relax and read on the beach but be prepared to wait to be served.

Room Tip: Light the mosquito coils around dusk and put the net down too.
