“Not great”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2014 via mobile

We stayed in these bungalows for 3 nights in march 2014. We weren't impressed. The bungalows themselves are very basic and not very clean. Breakfast is in the restaurant in front of the bungalows on the beach and is good. When you go to the restaurant on an evening time they will try and push their BBQ to the point where it becomes uncomfortable and you order the BBQ which is expensive and badly executed. When we were there the sea was also full of very small jellyfish wish made swimming almost impossible. The receptionist told us it depends on wind direction wether these jellyfish are there or not.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at Thai Tan Tien for 5 nights in March 2014 - we searched and searched for somewhere on Phu Quoc and couldn't find much that matched our budget and criteria. We found Thai Tan Tien - but were unsure because of the bad - average reviews.
After our visit we felt compelled to write a review....

The bungalows: Beautiful, spotless, comfortable - lovely bathrooms, spacious and a seating area outside. The ones that say they have beach view probably aren't worth paying more for - they are all in a great setting. The bungalows are cleaned everyday and they replace towels/water etc.

Staff: Friendly, attentive, funny, helpful - cant complain at all.

Restaurant: Not only is it on the beach (a 2 minute walk from all the bungalows) and a beautiful setting - great sunset views, but the evening food is exceptional - nightly BBQs (more expensive) and a huge menu - we actually ate there 3 nights as it was so good.

Location: In our opinion you cant get better - able to walk down the beach from the bungalows to lots and lots of restaurants and bars - some luxury, some backpacker, some local - brilliant variety.

Beach: not the best but that's in comparison to Vietnam and Cambodia's finest beaches. Sun loungers and deck chairs.

There was absolutely nothing that we didn't like - we booked 1 day in advance and found it incredibly good value - (we were on a flash packer budget)

Room Tip: Beach view apartments seem to be nearer a marshy bit - very picturesque but maybe a bit buggy?

I have a chance to spend my Christmas holiday here and it was awesome. The people were extremely friendly and always tried their best to support us. The distance between the room and the beach was so near with beautiful sightseeing, nice and reasonable price at the restaurant.

I will come back here soon!!!

Everything that is written bellow still applies:
Ok prices, ok rooms, close to the beach, poor restaurant, ok prices for motorcycle (5$ for non automatic), insects and frogs in the bungalows (none in the rooms of the apartment building).

However noone mentioned the rooster the owner has in the main yard. He starts to scream around 5 a.m. and goes all day long and makes it impossible to have a healthy sleep. Unless he deals with it dont expect to have a nice vacation here.

... Anything positive to be said (direct beach access, nice beach, good beachside foodplaces nearby, decent rooms) is somewhat spoiled by the absurdly loud beachsite disco / karaoke bar in direct neighbourhood. Any evening before 11.15 p.m. will be spoiled reliably by the ever-repeating vocal performances of drunken morons. Forget sitting at the beach or in the hammock in front of your bungalow. If you spend the evening somewhere else anyway, this place is not bad at all.

We stayed here two nights in August for $15, private bungalow w/fan and bathroom with a beach view. We were the only people staying here since it was off season. The service was quite terrible though. Unlike their website states, wifi is unavailable unless you sit on the steps of the owners home. Also, our room was not cleaned daily like advertised. The restaurant was the cheapest we had seen on the island but they didn't even bother to turn the lights on the boardwalk on for us at night resulting in us carrying our flashlight in order to get dinner. They also overcharged for a moto rental (just rent one from the guy up the road). The place probably is quite nice in high season, but in low it just seems like you are bothering them.

When we originally arrived we thought the place was good value for money. The bungalows were decent, although need a good scrub and the proximity to the beach is great.
The problem is the staff!!
Firstly it is run by a bunch of teenagers who cannot be bothered and have no customer service or any service skills at all. The orders are constantly mixed up and beware when you put food on your room they will not give you an itemized bill at the end, so you have no idea what you are paying for and I am pretty sure neither do they. The bar staff are a bunch of teenagers who are too busy chatting and hanging out then serving you and if they eventually do you feel like you disturbed them and you should be grateful they even came over.
The food is bad too. French fries tasted of fish and it seems the cooking oil was not changed in days, salads come unwashed..hygiene is clearly not their top priority.
The worst is yet to come. We rented one of their motorbikes and realised that there was no air in one of the tyres, so we kept on pumping it up but the tyre had a puncture, so we had to buy a new tyre. They rear brake was not working properly so we eventually had an accident.
I had to get stitches in my foot and am still unable to walk after 2 weeks. The hotel wanted to charge us for scratches on the bike!!! Not to mention that they did not once ask if we needed anything, considering that we were both injured. They simply did not care at all.
The receptionist is just lying in his hammock all day and can barely stand up for you, but sure they want your money! I asked for an extra pillow and that seemed like a big deal. As soon as we felt a little better we immediately moved out and left for a much greater cleaner and better place. NEVER AGAIN and I hope they shut down!
