I spent a fantastic six days here. It's a bit remote and the accommodations are humble but the food is fantastic and the hosts work very hard to make guests welcome and to bring guests together as a group. This was a very refreshing break from the anonymity of a string of hotels and I was genuinely sorry to leave.

i dreamed of staying on a shack on the beach but a hut in the forest was so much better. this is the best of both worlds. you don't have to deal with the uptight resort attitude and inflated prices but you have access to their beaches and resources while staying deep in the forest, sharing amazing food in the evenings and being part of a community for a moment in time. we felt this most strongly one night when rita was standing at the gate with a torch worrying that we had lost our way in the dark! then we realised this ain't no ordinary hotel. thank you peter and rita for giving us some honey for our moon.

We spent 4 nights at Freedomland and so happy to have found this great spot. We were the only guest (low season) and Peter and Rita went out of their way to make us feel welcome, comfortable and very well fed!!! The menu really is 5-star and the best we had in Vietnam. Freedomland is very supportive of the local community, evident in the happy, friendly staff. Freedomland is not on the beach, however very easy access with the new motos and bikes. Being off the beach provides a chilled, quiet, natural setting. Thanks Peter and Rita and good luck for your future plans for Freedomland.

What an amazing find here on Trip Advisor! We chose Freedomland after reading the glowing reviews, and people were right!

Our bungalow had an attached bath and we loved it. You actually walked out the back door, through a walled pathway to the bathroom. The walled pathway was where the outdoor shower was with a coconut shell shower head. So many quirky details!

The best part about Freedomland is the food! We were blown away! I'm not a huge fan of shrimp, but Peter and his staff made some delicious shrimp for us. We had perfectly prepared squid almost every night as well. Meals averaged about $6 US, and they were totally worth it. Someone will whip you up a plate of pasta and seafood for lunch, and the flavors are incredible! We also loved the communal table for dinners. We met so many great folks and loved the range of conversation topics.

The walk to Mango Bay was about 20 minutes, and along the way we passed many yards full of drying peppercorns. The beach at Mango Bay was kept very clean, and we were allowed to use the lounge chairs as well. Be sure to catch a sunset here, but remember to bring a headlamp to get back to Freedomland.

The staff were friendly. Peter was an excellent host. He helped us to arrange a taxi half-day trip around the southern part of the island. The room was comfortable despite the lack of air conditioning - luckily we had a fan. The worst part of the whole trip was that we were only there for three nights. We would have loved to stay longer!

I've stayed at Freedomland for 4 nights and loved it. It's a beautiful and unspoilt, sandy piece of land with different fauna and flora and little bungalows in the middle. Open shower, and no A/C (there are fans instead) and lack of hot water (which you don't need in HOT Vietnam :)) make you feel very close to the nature. Fantastic place to chill out away from motorbikes and traffic. You can spend a day on a hammock, walk to Mango Bay or join one of the arranged trips. Peter - the owner- is a very laid back and friendly guy, who makes this place feel like home for everyone who arrives. The food he serves is one of the best I had in Vietnam. Great place for solo travellers!! Altogether - wonderful experience!

We stayed 4 nights at this unique resort situated 20 minutes walking from Mango Beach. It's a place with the service of a guesthouse and the cosiness of a homestay. It has a great atmosphere where you can spend the day reading a book in one of the many hammocks or have a chat with fellow travelers in a kind of outside 'living room' on stilts. The bungalows are basic with a bed, a musquito net and a fan. The shared or private bathroom consists of a coconutshower with cold water, a toilet and a sink. All made of natural products. The best of all is the food, which is served whenever you like. At night the multilingual owner/chef - Peter - is dedicated to serve a variety of absolutely delicious dishes which can easily be compared to high quality restaurants. Last but not least the owner can help you with any kind of traveling service and things to see & do on the island (e.g. visa, transportation, motorbike rental, boat trips, etc.). Peter, thanks for a wonderful time at Freedomland!
