“Special place with amazing food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2014

Although it's true that FL is a bit more expensive than some other places (both for food and accommodation), in my view it's worth it - this is like nowhere else we've stayed. We found the owners to be really lovely and the place itself is put together thoughtfully, sort of like a traveller hangout but populated mostly by young (-ish) middle-class professionals. The beach 10-15 mins walk away is stunning, some of the whitest sand I've ever seen on the dunes, and the sunsets just beautiful (though don't linger too long as it gets dark quickly!). Evenings were great, normally we like our privacy and communal eating *really* isn't our thing, but we knew what we were getting and the food and company were as good as everyone says. The only downpoint was the food on the beach, we had to wait a long time for a simple vegetarian noodle dish and when it arrived it wasn't great. But this is a minor gripe, I'd go back no question. We stayed in one of the stone cottages which was excellent - loads of space, nice veranda with hammocks, great outdoor bathroom.

Freedomland can be awful: 20 minutes walk to the beach, a dirty road, insects, geckos, no shopping, no next to the beach bar, no swimming pool, sand under your seat at the table, no AC, no hot water, no roof for the bathroom and no real isolation on the room from outside. If you want all these, do no go there. You will be one of those complaining about the place.

Yet, if you like really good and fancy food, nice, family atmosphere, accept firm rules in order to allow everyone to feel good, then you MUST go there. By far, the best thing at freedomland is Peter's food. he could easily be one of the greatest chefs of the world. I simply wish he could open a restaurant in Europe and go there whenever I want. I still feel hungry whenever I remember his food (and yet I am a slim person :D )

Rita is the one who makes things work. She thinks about everyone's needs trying to cope everyone wishes. She and Peter are a among the very few hotel owners who do not give you the feeling they are making money from your staying there. You feel like coming to their home and they make all the efforts to make you feel most comfortable. Yes, there are rules written everywhere but this is the only way to allow everyone to have a great Holiday.

The rooms are beautiful, I felt I were in a fairy tale place, specially the wooden bungalows. I am a rather spoiled person, yet I did not miss at all hot water (at home I mast have very hot water even for washing my hands) and not having ac but natural ventilation I felt like a bonus.

Yes, there were insects, frogs and geckos in the room, but they are friendly as long as you do not make their life difficult.

definitely try the spa. The beach is a bit far away but the reward is that there almost no one there yet drinks and food are available all day long by making an order at the guy from freedomland who stays on the beach.

The snorkeling trip is ok but not breath-taking. Sao beach is nice but not wonderful. I'd rather recommend a day trip to pepper farms and day market in the town.

I dream of the day when I will be able to return there.

Room Tip: if you are disturbed by sound during night do not go to the room 14 (there is a noisy bamboo near...

Probably the best place I have ever stayed. Freedomland is unique and beautiful. If you are going to Phu Quoc you should stay here. Everyone is very friendly and the food is outstanding. You can hire scooters and travel the island or you can enjoy the beach which is only a short walk from the jungle paradise. Thank-you to Rita and Peter and everyone who made this such an incredible experience.

It is the best place to stay in Phu Quoc where you find nice and friendly people from all over the world, exotics landscapes and most important warm and kind people like Rita and Peter the owners of the resort. How can I forget the fusion of European and Vietnamese cuisine, the best food I ever ate in my life. I'll definitely come back to become Peter padawam during one week and learn from him to cook such a delicious food.

What a unique and lovely place Freedomland is! Nice hosts, fantastic bungalows and superb food! Paradise in the jungle, yet close to the beach.
We spent 4 nights and found ourselves completely relaxed in an atmosphare of doing nothing except enjoying nice company, excellent food and perfect ambience:-)

There could ve been no better choice to stay in Phu Quoc.
A wonderful vibe of relaxation as soon as you enter the resort.
Rita and Peter greet you warm-heartedly and serve amazing food at communal dinners.
It s very sociable if you want it to be and you meet quite some travellers.
The bungalows are very charming and spacious.
Due to the whole atmosphere with the jungle accomodation plus the nearly empty, beautiful beach, it got one of my highlights of my travels through Vietnam.

This home stay resort is not for everyone, but if you love nature, love peace and quiet, and love to eat there is no better place. What an experience! Every evening Peter prepares a delicious 5 course meal, everything from traditional Vietnamese to Infusion cuisine. Dinner is served at one table with all of the guests sitting together, a great opportunity to meet people and share travel stories. The rooms are clean, and we spent many hours in the hammock with the 'drink of the day'. Keep in mind there is no hot water, no AC and the room open to frogs and lizards etc. but there are mosquito nets on the beds and high powered fans that produce enough cool air. The beach is a 15 minute walk, it is clean and relatively secluded. There are beach chairs and umbrellas available and a beach boy provides drinks and a menu. Food is brought out from the resort. Mopeds are available for rent, and bicycles are available to borrow free of charge. Peter also organized a snorkelling trip for the group the week we stayed. The massage was the best I had in Vietnam, the ambiance in the little hut with the jungle sounds and the aromatherapy was amazing. The town is only 20 minutes away, but really, we never wanted to leave, and that is extremely rare for us! I can go on and on, but if this sounds like something you would enjoy, please do it. Peter and Rita are lovely and make you feel like part of their family! Fabulous place!
