“A Piece of Paradise - Rita and Peter...All the Best!”
Reviewed January 8, 2014

My Wife and Me had been there from 31st of December to 5th of January.
We prefer to summarize our Experience as follows:
If you don't like a unique experience;
If you don’t like meeting interesting and special people;
If you simply don’t appreciate eating and drinking with precious “gusto”;
If you don’t love animals;
If you would prefer the typical resort instead of the flavor of the daily discovery...

...Don’t go to Freedomland!

For everything else there's M@$t3rc@rd!

We stayed four nights in a very nice bungalow with a queen size bed, a single bed and a cot. All beds had mosquito nets. Our girls (2 & 4 years old) had an amazing time. We spent quite some time at Freedomland relaxing, eating and drinking. You don't need toys for the kids: they entertain themselves in the sand around the bar, playing hide and seek in the safe rainforest (no dangerous animals) and snoozing in the hammocks. A separate dinner was prepared for the kids around 6pm. They were asleep in our the bungalow close to the communal area before we enjoyed our amazing diner every night from 7pm. This place is very child friendly if your kids don't mind a cold shower, although the ocean is a bit warmer. Thanks to Rita, Peter and friendly staff to make our stay so comfortable.

Room Tip: We stayed in bungalow 4: close enough to the communal area to keep an eye on the kids however far en...

Freedomland was definitely the best place that we stayed in Vietnam. The rooms are very aesthetically pleasing, with lovely, with crisp white cotton sheets and duvet covers. The veranda outside the rooms has a comfortable day bed and a hammock, where you can sit for hours within the forest setting. The beach, although a 12 minute walk away was idyllic. The food was good and the the best thing for me was that you could order lunch from one of the staff on the beach and it would be motorbiked down to you!

Stayed at Freedomland with family for Christmas. Mum and brother in a twin bungalow, myself and my boyfriend in a double. Both bungalows were absolutely lovely with huge, comfy, clean beds and amazing outdoor bathrooms. 5 nights of the best sleep of my life in the marshmallow comfort of the bed.

Freedomland is such a special place with a wonderful laid back atmosphere. The communal dinners are a real treat with Peter never failing to surprise and amaze night after night cooking up the most delicious feasts!

Phu Quoc is a fabulous location with stunning beaches to discover and charming fishing villages. Though if you really can't face the activity the almost deserted stretch of sand just a short walk from the resort is pretty heavenly.

If you still aren't relaxed after a few nights of tremendous food, divine cocktails and great company then book yourself a massage in the little jungle treatment room. The detox massage was wonderful and great value.

However long you choose to stay at Freedomland it won't be long enough. After 5 nights we had to drag ourselves away. Thank you Peter and Rita for a wonderful Christmas and an unforgettable break. We will almost certainly be seeing you again...!

Quite simply Freedomland is unique.
Very special place and very special people, we felt truly welcome and at home from the moment we arrived.
You cannot help but love every aspect of Peter and Rita's idyll from the near deserted beach, the forest set rooms, Rita's Cafe cocktails and of course the wonderful gourmet suppers. How Peter and his team created for circa 30 guests each night is still a mystery. We loved the evenings for meeting travellers from around the world to share the wonderful fare and fascinating tales.
Freedomland is one of life's experiences not to be missed - a huge thank you to Peter, Rita and all your team.
We look forward to seeing you again, hopefully with our boys and their girlfriends.

We are both seasoned travellers and not prone to hyperbole and the only words to describe the week spent with Peter and Rita: SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!Peter is a consumate chef who produced 3* Michelin dinners every evevning, but what makes it so special is the combination of gorgeous beach and eating together under twinkly lights each night. We loved meeting like minded travellers from all corners of the globe each evening, and did i mention the cocktails?
Cannot praise this wonderful place more. My only advice is that you have to visit this magical hidden gem at least once before you die. Just dont tell too many people please!

We didn't really know what to expect from Freedomland. It had great reviews on Tripadvisor but the Lonely Planet made it sound so-so. IGNORE the Lonely Planet, this place is amazing! They called it a hippy commune but since when do you get world class food, Vodka Martinis and fab service in a hippy commune? This place was the highlight of our trip.

I stopped counting how many nights we had left there and started counting down in how many meals we had left - that's how good the food was. I'm not talking three courses, it was five courses every night - imacculately presented.

The beach was beautiful too - white sandy beach with no development on it whatsoever. Hopefully it will stay this way. Oh, and on the hippie commune point, Freedomland has deck chairs and umbrellas on the beach, as well as one of its staff stationed there all day to run back to Freedomland on his moped to bring you lunch/drinks. Not sure that would happen in a hippie commune.

All in all we had an absolutely great time, fantastic meals and some fun drunken evenings with the other guests. Can't wait to go back.
