Well restored, well maintained small Khmer ruin. A small museum on site as well. Well worth a visit. Parking is easy. Bring an umbrella for the sun.

Best historical tourist attraction in the area. The architecture is very different compared to Europe and the area is well preserved.

Kkhmer ruin. Very interesting site. Expect as always to pay more as a foreigner. Given that the ruin is about 800 years old it really is quite an amazing structure.

Just made my third visit to Phimai Historical Park - this time to take High Dynamic Range photos with my new DSLM. The architecture, restoration (if you accept the assumptions that go with such restorations) and park-like setting (with large shade trees on site) make this a nice blend of educational and pleasant.

Phimai is easy to get to, with frequent and inexpensive bus service from Korat (Bo Ko So station 2). Phimai is also a reasonable place for an overnight or two (e.g. at the Phimai Inn at the edge of town).

It's a lovely place to walk around, and there are hardly any other tourists there so you can get some great photos. The small visitor centre has information in both English and Thai and is useful for getting an idea of the period. You can get a bus from Korat to Phimai in about 90 minutes, and it costs THB 50.
