Supar Royal Beach Hotel
Ranked #9 of 10 Hotels in Khanom
Reviewed May 3, 2013

We live quite near Khanom and drive down quite often. The restaurant at the Supar Royal Beach used to be pretty good but our last two visits have been a poor experience. We don't know what's happened to the restaurant staff but uninterested would be an apt description.

On the positive side, the view from the beach side restaurant is stunning and for non Thai speakers, the menu is in both English and Thai which is useful. There is a good choice of food but it lacks something and doesn't compare to many Thai restaurants in the area.
The main problem was with the service. When we arrived, only two other tables were occupied so it was quiet but two of the staff were stretched out asleep and the others were more interested in their mobile phones than in serving customers. One male member of staff was either drunk or giving a very good impression of intoxication! When we managed to persuade one to put down her mobile phone and take our food and drink order, we almost felt guilty at disturbing her! The food took an age to appear and by the time my dish arrived, my partner had almost finished hers and there was no real reason for the delay. Visitors to the restaurant should note that as in many Thai restaurants, you will need to ask for ice for your drinks if you want it.
The view across the bay is fantastic though and there is safe swimming...it's a shame about the service but I doubt if we will eat there again. There are many resorts(hotels) at Khanom so it isn't difficult finding somewhere to eat.

This restaurant is part of the Supar Royal Beach Resort Nai Plau Beach at Khanom. We did not stay here but had dinner here. The night we decided to go here it was absolutely packed with Thai people that were here for a conference. Lucky for us there was one table left.

What a funny night, just us and maybe 100 Thai's having fun with speeches, karaoke, prize giving and dancing. We both ordered mussaman curries and it was extremely spicy but delicious.

Our bill here for food and the drinks which included a large bottle of beer, a bottle of coke and a bottle of Hong Thong rum was 460baht.

I also left my reading glasses here and we went back the next day to see if anyone had found them, as soon as we pulled up in the car they were there with my glasses, huge relief as there was also sd cards etc inside the case.

Arriving evening after a long day on the road, the hotel was full they only had V.I.P. (beach shacks) at 1500 baht each??!!! Ok we where all tired so took two. The staff where lacking in interest, feeling and smiles. The was dirty and smelly looking like a cheap 1970s roadside motel.. Some holes in the door and walls. The limited furniture was looking worse for wear,, some strange brown stains/growth on the curtains. Attacked by an army of mosses during the night.. Woke up in the morning after a less then comfortable sleep. Bags pack ready to get out.. My sister in law proposed we paid 1500baht for each room I think breakfast is included.......worng. You can have breakfast. Only 150 baht per person. The only thing I can recommend to other is to avoid supar like the plague. We move to another place cheaper room twice the size. That will get a four star review. The people of kahnom are very happy , friendly and helpful people.. We just had a bad welcome.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

This hotel and bungalow complex is the real deal….an authentic Thai experience with some of the best food you will eat in southern Thailand. The family who run the hotel are warm and inviting without being intrusive, not a lot of the staff speak English but this is not a problem as they are so helpful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. If you’re after adventure this is not the place for you…..this is a wonderful place to just kick back and relax. Eat, swim, sleep and the days just drift away in this little slice of paradise. The beach is great and it is wonderful to sleep with the sound of the waves in a bungalow room on the sand. Local Thai people drive for miles just to eat at the beach restaurant, authentic southern Thai food that you will remember long after the trip is finished. It can be a little Faulty Towers at times but this just adds to it charm. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: beach bungalow is the way to go

I have stayed at the Supar Villas, attached to the Supar Royal Beach Hotel, a half dozen times over the last ten years. It may not be the fanciest accommodation, but there is a feel of connecting to the real Thailand here, rather than some international hotel chain's artificial oasis that buffers you from the local experience. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff always friendly if not at times delightfully vague, the family of the owner Supar wonderful and welcoming. Relax in a villa right on the beach at a very reasonable price, eat the delicious local cuisine at the restaurant, visit the local market, visit the nearby large town Khanom, just totally relax. This is a holiday about doing nothing and I have never done nothing more happily that in my visits to the Supar Villas.

Room Tip: Make sure you get one of the beachfront vilas. Paradise at your doorstep.

I have been fortunate enough to spend quite a bit of time at Supar - the first time being 4 years ago on a one month visit to Khanom and every l year thereafter. Supar is a fantastic lady who knows how to make you feel at home. Her daughter, Ying, who appears to be at the helm of the operation, ensures everything at the resort flows smoothly.
I am sad to leave today, but happy to know that I will be back in the very near future to experience it all again!

It is a nice hotel with exellent location on the empty beach. If you want to relax and stay out of crowds - this is the place. Out of the window of your bungalow you can see Samui island. The beach is several km long and empty. Hotel has a nice small swiming pool. Standard (for Thailand) size bungalows are clean and have big balcony, where you can relax in the evening. Near hotel you can find several realy good restuarants with different type of food (the food in the hotel's restaurant is good also - many local people are coming there for their dinner). Management of the hotel is very helpfull and responsive. I can recommend this hotel without any hesitation to any person who want to stay out of crowds and relax. Small advice - book beach front bungalow.
